Since several have been asking of late about hair loss........

I want to ask those of who have been on trt for several years or more and had hair loss:
how would u describe your hair loss? Does it just thin out all over. Or was it mainly receding hairline back toward the back half of the head? Or was it both? Just curious.
I've been reading up on many forums about this subject and I notice that more than a few men are so shocked by the amount of hair loss that they QUIT trt! I mean, if you have TT of 200 or 300 with erectile dysfunction, total loss of gym interest, no libido, can't sleep and you're depressed how on earth can u quit TRT over hair loss?
I've been on trt for about 4 months and every day I shampoo my hair I have at least 10 long visible hairs on my shampoo covered hands. I'm not happy about this. I'm really not but I know that I need TRT like someone who needs Lasix for heart failure or depression or bipolar Meds in order to keep correct body chemistry.
I'll never shave my head with a razor to smooth but depending on how my hair gets I'll have to use trimmers to shave it down to stubble. I am in the process of coming to terms with this. It is what it is. I do wonder what will my hair look like in a year or 3 years. Just thinner? Or totally freaking going and unsightly? Oh well there's no turning back now.

I've just started Minoxidil 5%. It takes a month or so to see the results, so too early at this point to tell if it's working. I have standard male pattern baldness with a nice baseball sized bald spot on my crown and thin hair on the top of my head. I'm 39 and had a TT of 190 prior to trt. This means on trt I'm most likely going to have the jason statham look in no time. I'm going to give Minoxidil 5% a good couple months and evaluate.

My doctor (which is probably best TRT doc in the world); told me hair loss isn't very common with TRT; he told me that hair loss will happen regardless of TRT or no trt; but possibly TRT speeds up the process... He told me that often people that he sees who have MPB often have normal or even slightly lower than normal levels of testosterone and DHT

"The disposition to balding also correlates positively with the latter ratio. Yet the absolute serum androgen concentrations in men with a disposition to balding is lower than in men with no reduction of scalp hair. "

Instant who is your Dr? I'll have a look at your links later when I have more time. I have very thick hair at age 41. My relatives all had thick full head of hair into elderly age. So if I lose lots of hair over the next few years I won't buy that it was simply going to happen. I'll be certain its TRT.
Average man, I use nizoral shampoo and been too lazy to apply minoxidil twice daily.

id have to agree with this philosophy... youre going to lose it regardless

Yeah it's weird how it all works....

but i see dr. eugene shippen which is awesome doctor when it comes to HRT

3j why do u say we're destined to lose it regardless. There are plenty of old men I see with full head of hair.

i mean to say those that are genetically dispositioned... if you were meant to lose it genetically you will..

anabolics might increase the rate of loss.. but the loss would have occured regardless

That's the funny thing about genetics; you can have recessive genes from both parents that have skipped several generations, only to match up in you. Balding is often caused by DHT conversion (as mentioned above) and is carried in your DNA as far as how your body reacts to it.

This is no different than eye or hair color, and will happen regardless of TRT or not. It's simply a matter of time.

I'm not prone myself, but my brother is. As our father's side has full heads of hair going back several generations, we look at our maternal side. Our grandfather there has gone bald, but he's the only one - going back four more generations. This just means that we are missing someone else on the other side (paternal) that had the gene, or our maternal grandfather's genetics carried enough to spread it to my brother - even though none of our uncles have it.

Ironically, I shave my head even though I can grow a full head of hair, while my brother has always had long hair to his shoulders. I bought him a shaving kit for Christmas, but he didn't appreciate my humor. :wiggle:

Not sure if this is true or not, but I heard look at your Moms brothers (if any) and thats a good idea what your hair line will be like

How long u been on trt halfwit
A little under 6 years.

That's what scientists originally thought, but that was before we had the ability to analyze genes like we can today. Now it's just a matter of having enough of a certain gene to provide a specific trait. The genes can be handed down from either parent newer studies have found.

I agree with halfwit, but the challenge is most of us will never map our genes to know if we are prone to MPB. The rule of thumb to look at your mom's brother's is as accurate you will get without gene mapping. My dad, his brothers and grandfather all have full heads of hair, but my mom's brothers are MPB. In my case the rule o thumb was correct - I'm balding just like my mother's brother and grandfather on that side of the tree..

And it was true for me... every male on my dads side is completely bald, everyone on mothers side has no MPB of any kind... I look exactly like my dad and don't have any hair loss or thining yet and I'm approaching mid 30's

I thought about it when starting a few weeks ago as I've had some thinning in the last couple years. I don't think I'll go full bald or any more than some thin spots but if I do I'm fully prepared to do hair transplants. I won't be doing any meds.

I had my genetics mapped out for genealogical purposes, so I figured I might at well be tested for Male Pattern Baldness, here are the results:

Results
rs1160312 AG Less likely to go bald
rs2180439 CT Less likely to go bald

The best is to have GG and CC, but I am happy with the results. This explains why, at age 46, I barely have any hair loss. I have a little thinning at the crown of my head, but nothing too bad. I have lots of hair still. GO ME!!!

I have started using monoxadil 5% to see if I can restore that small portion of loss.

Where did you get this testing at? More info please.

I went bald during my thirties. My brothers and father didn't.

It's not the end of the world.

I'm rather amused by the lengths that men go to in order to avoid hair loss. Surgery and drug that have various side effects strike me as being not worth the pain and hassle.
