Skipping for fat loss???

Currently i do 3-4 times/week for 30 minutes cardio. Either incline treamill or eleptical. I always keep my heartrate to under 135.

My question is about skipping/jump rope. Would this also be a good option for burning fat? and not burning too much muscle at the same time. I don't recall anyone on here ever mentioning too much about this.

Boxers do alot of skipping and they're always quite lean.

Any comments or info is more than welcome.

anything that keeps your HR around 135 will burn fat, burn cals, etc etc. Boxers jump rope man, they dont skip....lol

LOL, sorry your right they do jump rope and so do i! I stand corrected.

I'm not too sure what my heart rate is when i'm jumping rope. I don't have a heartrate monitor, though i suppose i could stop part way through and count it out.

Unless your a boxer you don't mind calling it skipping rope!

One of the best Cardio exercises one can do in my opinion

One can SKIP all the way around the block for an incredible work out.

I know that its great for cardio. And i assume that its good for fat loss. But will it also affect muscle mass? Or is this something that i can do and not worry too much about losing muscle?

The only way your going to loose muscle is if your running your calories at a deficit.

I like to skip double dutch on the playground at recess for my cardio

You figure out it gets chicks to play with ya also?

do it once your done lifting. aim for 4-5 20-25min sessions a wk. up your protein intake a bit so you can maintain muscle.

you will need to also feed your body more cals to make up for what you burn doing jump rope. add in 75% more pro, 25% more fat if your trying to cut.

Thanks, thats essentially what i've been doing. This week i've been off due to family and life stuff. But i'll be back at it next week!

Do a Google search for Jump Rope interval training. It's one of the best training methods for fat loss but also one that requires a lot of patience to build up endurance. It's not that common in the gym these days because it's so challenging.

I have to use the fake jump ropes. The ones that have handles and weighted balls on the end. Anyone remember jump rope for life in elementary school? I was so clumsy with the jump rope I didn't do the fund raiser any good at all. I trip so much I don't actually get my heart rate up using a regular jump rope. I get a great benefit from the non rope method though!
