Smith Machine VS Free Weights

I use a Smith machine all the time for chest, delts, CG Bench, Reverse Bench. My gains have not be effected at all.

If you lift heavy with high intensity you are going to grow. It doesn't matter if you are in the smith machine, or have a DB or BB in your hands.

spoken like a true dante'onian. :D

how do you know they havent been affected if you never using free weights for the movements you listed? =0l

As far as squats go, I can't stand watching some people (usually pretty new to lifting) doing squats on there... when they put their feet way out front... you know what I'm talking about. It's good if you're trying to hit a certain group, but shouldn't be your base squat..

I've used both.

I find that working out alone the smith machine is a great tool. No need for a spot. If I get stuck I am able to rack to weight and snake out from under the bar. With free weights, I would be fucked.

If I had a training partner I would use more free weights, but going solo I like the smith

Damn you beat me to it. Exactly. When i had a training partner, free weights, but since i don't anymore, well... i'd rather use the smith than risk an injury.

Side note: Damn Adid... I'm 5' 8 and only around 170lbs. What's your BF% at 208?

Thank you Easto, need a few guys in here willing to admit the damn thing has its place. Were u trained BY DC or just using his principles?

What are your gains like?

You should start an online journal. Seriously. I'm very curious to know your routine.

I've only used it a few times in the past year... I dunno, just not a huge fan of it. May start using it here and there in the future though.

i hear you man. do whatever you can to get back there asap. gym is the one place i can get out all my aggressions productively and have kind of a 'base camp'. A 30lb dumbell weighs the same where ever you are. 285 is no joke though. I think my highest has been 250 so far. I havn't maxed out in a while, no training partner.

To keep this relevant to the thread, when i maxed out i was using free weights, not a smith. But i'm a regular user of the smith machine on incline bench and shoulders. I vary b/t that and dumbells to keep my stabilizer muscles from atrophying.

he does dc training mr.anak. ill explain it all to ya tomorrow.

They dont have a Smith machine in my gym, I love it. They oughta be banned from all Gym's in my opinion. It took me a while to break the inferiority of being weak but strength came in time. I feel a lot of people use the smith cause they don't wanna look weak with the BB.

I am not trained by DC, but I have spent months upon months upon months researching it.

I follow alot of his principles because.... well, they make sense to me.

Eat lots of protein
Lift Heavy
Focus on Compound Movements
Extreme Intensity

If you use these in ANY routine you will make some great gains.

Once I get settled into my new job I am considering contacting Dante or In-Human for some one-on-one training.

Right now I am sittig at 5'8", 230lbs with about 10%bf. Next year I am looking at taking things up a notch.

I can't argue with the above four.

As long as you are making strength gains, and eating a shit load of protein to support the new muscle you are all set.

Eat-train-sleep repeat
