So my coach has me on this Vegan shit..

DipKing

YAYYYY!!
For gymnastics my coach has all of us eating this vegan diet. I've never gone vegan, hell I've never gone vegetarian, and it doesn't seem to make any sense. It consist of quiona, green vegetables, bran cereal..like literally it looks and taste like rabbit food, and kidney beans. Literally that's it. I feel like it's counterproductive and I'm not getting all my nutrients in. I know these are all very nutrient rich foods, but it's less than 2000 calories a day which is less than half of what I'm used to. I have leaned out a ton...but I just came off cycle and I"m scared it's messing with my gains not getting enough calories. My coach is very experienced, he's from Russia before the Soviet Union dissolved..doesn't talk alot and he's mean as hell. Don't want to question him, but, does anyone have any experience with this sort of diet?

I haven't eaten that sort of diet no but it all boils down to P/C/F and how many kcals you're consuming, work it out and add in more nutrients to meet your macros.

well tofu & quinoa can be major protein , more than steak pretty sure

beans, nuts, peanut butter, & steel cut oats , protein shakes

some vegans include fish and eggs? what does your coach say about this?

does he monitor your meals?

does he monitor your meals?

No, but I do what he tells me. He has trained gold medalist from the Soviet Union back in the 80s. He knows what he's doing, but it's mentally exhausting. It's only for 2 more weeks. Lot of my teammates think he's trying to break us because he knows some of the guys party on the weekends and such. To him, back in the USSR gymnastics was a way to escape poverty..maybe get out of there. And if these guys don't care enough to go 110%, why should he?

IMO Veganism is a BS way for people to justify their whacked out personal convictions. True vegans definitely don't eat fish (thats a Pescatarian) or eggs. They very rarely know how to eat correctly to meet their daily nutrional needs and end up looking emaciated and lifeless.
Opinions aside, our bodies are made to consume meat, plain and simple! In order to replace that, you have to consume LARGE amounts of legumes and green vegetables like Spinach and Kale to get both protein and iron in your diet.
If your coach were looking for a way to Lean you up, he found it! Unless he's counting your calories, eat more of everything he will let you eat... Add Peanut butter if you can and get your carbs up best you can. Careful on too much tofu as too much Soy has been found to increase estrogen levels. Grab some almond milk instead.

Fuck anyone who is different than me or has different convictions, fucking monkeys. I'm no vegan but some of you sound retarded.

Go eat at Wendy's immediatly... & go tell your coach to eat some of that shit hes suggesting.
Furthermore go run some tren just to piss your coach off...

no protein source is a good as meat. period. what does diet have to do with producing gold medalists? it's training, genetics, body type. if your form sucks it sucks, no vegan diet is going to change that. tell that commie to fuck off and eat a cow

lol, I couldn't imagine doing a vegan diet even for a cut or something. I NEED TO EAT MEAT!!!

well maybe you can sneak in a little extra something something if your scared of loosing gains

This is true. Much like bodybuilding, gymnastics also includes a mental game. It doesn't matter what you feel like or if it hurts, you have to perform 100% no matter what. I do think diet is a huge factor in my performance however.

I've seen a lot of coaches who know almost nothing about nutrition give really bad dietary advice. I'm sure your coach is amazing at coaching gymnastics, but it sounds to me like he might be one of those stubborn people who refuse to change their mind on anything. What we know about nutrition has changed a lot in the last 20-30 years. I understand that sports have a mental aspect too, but why torture yourself unnecessarily? IMO it seems like a waste to be compliant to a nutrition plan that may be sub-optimal for your performance. It's not like you can't get everything you need from a vegan diet, it's just that it's so much more difficult and the issues of estrogen in soy products scares me enough to want to avoid them.
