Soreness.

I have a friend who is just jacked. He tells me that he tries to leave the gym sore EVERY workout.

I've been training harder than I ever have and I rarely get sore anymore. Does this mean I'm not training hard enough? Does soreness necessarily indicate growth?

Last summer I didn't know what the f*#@ I was doing, overtrained and burned out for a few months and I'm not going do that again. I do a 4-day split, 3 or 4 exercises per bodypart (5x5s and 3x10/8/6).

Soreness durring your workout is due to lactic acid build up which is of no direct corolation to muscle building nor is delayed muscle soreness(the soreness you get the day or 2 after you lift)

soreness has no indication of growth i grow the most when seemingly i did nothing the day before
although i have to admit i do like feeling sore cause i stay pumped for the whole day just not too sore though

I get very sore a day or two after workouts, but I think each person is different and there is no correlation between soreness and muscle building. I have friends that never get sore and they lift right and eat right, and grow, so who knows.

as said, soreness is not related with muscle building..

...remember you can be sore as hell and overtrain and hinder muscle growth...as long as you are training correctly for your goal and progress, it does not matter whether you are sore or not...

I found I do not generally get sore from the gym. That changed once I started the 5x5 routine. I am sore after every workout...But that is not saying I made less gains before when I did not get sore.

you have 2 types of sorness, DOMS (DELAYED ON SET MUSCLE SORENESSS) and AOMS (ACCUTE ON SET MUSCLE......)
If you experience the AOMS, that means you are doing way too much. You should generally be sore 24-48 hours after a workout.

Being sore is very taxing on the CNS, Since he does it every muscle group. I would never recommond it.

Like everyone else said being sore isnt a sign of progress.

You should not be sore after every workout. You should leave the gym wanting a little bit more. A good indicator is how excited you are to train. If you are dreading the going to the gym, you might be overtraining. Diet, rest, and stress levels also have an important role to play.

stress..i hate stress.....i just cant dal with it anymore...,makes me feel like i am having a stroke...argh....

ranger i think some folks might misunderstand ur leaving th gym and wanting more....i think when you go to the gym and work shoulders when you walk out of the gym ur shoulders are still hangin out on the military press....not saying you should go to the gym and perform 15 different exercises im just saying go and to 4 excersises for each body part and give 110% when you leave you should not feel like you should have done more...imo

Best ever quote on soreness.

I was up in the middle of the night once(far to common) and i saw this big ol' black dude, if you know who i am talking about please post his name, on one of the religious channels. he was lifting weights with some scrawny dude and he said this......."Train to stimulate, NOT Annihilate." Sounds good and works good.
