I recently started squatting after reading all the advice on the board.Everyone here thinks its a good thing to do so I thought I would ditch my usual leg extensions and presses..I now do squats and legg press only..I can really feel the difference after only doing it for three weeks..I squat all the way down untill my ass touches my calves, i find it slightly harder than doing it the other way, cause if i stop at parrellel it hurts my knees too much..

What is the best way to squat..All the way down or only to parrallel..

Thanks

Front or OLY squat...butt to the floor.

Wide stance...parallel or slightly below.

I take my leg presses and hack squats as deep as possible. I do leg presses for high reps though.

Hey bud, advice from me, a guy with a terrible right knee that gives out about 10 times a day, I squatted to parallel for years and my knees killed me, but i heard that all the way down would hurt worse, LIE, all the way down places MORE emphasis on your ass and hams then on your knees, so if you are worried about your knees then go ALL the way down, try box squats to get your form right! Good luck, let me know how it feels, you might be less powerful from all the way down, take it light at first.

Nice to see you here as well B..what would you consider to be wide stance, greater than shoulder width?

I'm 6'2" and my squat stance is about 56" or better...toe to toe. I have REALLY long feet though.

I'm really beginning to question the benefit of close stance squatting for leg development. I'm thinking that something where your heels are about 2' or 2.5' apart might just be best for the bodybuilder.

Squats not only develop your legs but if they are done right with heavy weight they increase testosterone production and are a total body exercise. I love squats--even though they are difficult.

i agree. ass in the grass is the only way to squat :) and husky is right :) they are a total body exercise
