Sunlight + Testosterone

Alright.. I have something interesting that's been on my mind all day that I'd like to put out there.

Earlier today I was looking into sunlamps, as I've read that exposure to sunlight (especially on your back) promotes testosterone production. So, while looking into this, I came across a thread where a guy talked about sitting by his window naked to get maximum sunlight exposure. I also read that, in addition to the back, sun exposure to the nutz has a strong positive impact on your test.

(Background info: it is known that when some people are deficient in certain vitamins or minerals, they will crave foods that are rich in what they need. People low in iron have even reportedly had cravings for clay / soil. People with adrenal insufficiency tend to crave salt/ sodium as a result of their condition)

So, when I read the impact sunlight exposure to the nuts has on testosterone, I almost couldn't believe it. Here's why.... Sometimes, when I would shower around lunch / mid-day, and the sun was at its highest point, it would shine through my washroom window.. And before getting into the shower I would get undressed and feel the need to stand in the sunlight for a few minutes. Even weirder, I would try and get some sun on my balls! I know this probably sounds insane (which is why I can't talk about this with anyone I know), but if you think about it, this is really mind boggling.

Could my body (which is / has been low on testosterone) have been craving sunlight on my testicles in order to increase test production??? I think it's more than a coincidence, especially considering the adrenal insufficiency + salt cravings.

Oh, and now that I think of it, a couple years back I spent just under a month in Italy. And I remember feeling goood (overall AND libido-wise) in the second half of it. I'm sure being on vacation anywhere will make you feel good / less stress, etc., but I think all the being on the beach under the sun played a big role.

I am not sure how sunlight could cross paths and affect the HPT axis. If you felt better in Italy it could be like you said, because you were on vacation but if you spent a lot of time in the sun, you more than likely reached optimal levels of Vitamin D which is synthesized in the skin from exposure to the sun.

I do not believe that the testicles need sunlight because anatomically-speaking, they aren't exactly in the best position to receive sunlight. If they did, it would be more anatomically correct to have testicles hanging off our foreheads.

Lol, that is true.. but at the same time, they are probably between the legs as that is a fairly protected area of the body. Plus they need to be able to retract up closer to the abdomen (for physical safety as well as temperature regulation).

I think the research showed that the increase in vitamin D is what boosts testosterone.

"Researchers tested vitamin D and testosterone levels of 2,299 men over the course of several months. They found that like vitamin D levels, testosterone levels peaked in the summer and dropped during the winter. They also found that men who had at least 30 nanograms of vitamin D in every milliliter of blood had the highest levels of circulating testosterone.

Again, they also found that exposure of different body parts (chest, back, etc) to sunlight had different effects on T production, with the back and testicles showing the most results.

I find it very interesting to say the least.. And I guess that interest is exacerbated by my "window-tanning" + the whole thing about people "craving" vitamins / minerals they are deficient in.

And, thanks for your reply. I had a feeling nobody would take this seriously.

I've also heard about the correlation between enough vit D and healthy test levels. I would agree that moderate sun exposure (don't want skin cancer) boosts health and overall wellbeing. I doubt that it boosts T levels by much but I can see it having a positive effect overall. Being deficient in one thing certainly would affect others. Just be careful when roasting those nuts.

I get more sunburnt while juicing for some reason. Like a nasty color redish purple. Look at the gorillas on the beach, you can see it with them too.

Forgot where I read this and may have to do some searching but: cholesterol eventually converts to testosterone, cholesterol also converts to Vitamin D when combined with sunlight some type of reaction takes place. So basically the body uses the cholesterol the liver produces as efficiently as it can, so with adequate sunlight, you should have fairly healthy levels of testosterone. I think it said something like 30 minutes a day of direct sunlight.
