Hi Guys,

Normally when i do reps i try to take around 4 seconds per rep nice controlled and steady movement..

Some guys tell me to bulk up i should do super slow movement..i thought this was a waste of time, any advice ?

Also, i have terrible pain in my shoulders when lifting the arm above shoulder point..

When working the shoulder , everything is ok no problem unlessi lift above a certain hight, theb the pain is so great i can not train..

Any ideas ?

Cheers Mac.

i like to have an explosive controlled postive and then a 5-6 second negative. i feel the muscle worked best like this

To become a personal trainer, they teach you the tempo of movements. Every movement in the gym has a set tempo. I was taught slow = mass. Fast movements = strength. No one does a slow clean and jerk... At least not without injury.

Sounds like you have a rotator cuff problem brewing. Do a google search and get some movements incorporated asap 1-2 x a week

Definitely begin doing internal and external rotation type movements, you can find a lot of info on this stuff online.

Now, back to the original question. The biggest effect of what you're talking about is simply the old adage about time under stress. The more time the muscle is under stress, the more it is broken and torn down during exercise, thereby theoretically leading to more growth. Might work, might not. You'd just have to try it and see, but I prefer a mixture of slower, very controlled type movements like you're talking about to aid in size, and explosive movements to enhance power.
