Teach me about exercising the calves

Teach me about exercising the calves. I seem to have a genetic advantage, since my calves are much larger than average, so I have no excuses. But I'm clueless, so I might need a little more detail than the names of the exercises. For example, calf raises. I assume that I stand on a board. Do I do that in a cage, or for that is it okay to use the hated smith machine?

Also, number of reps and number of sets is important to know.

Thanks.

Ok, i get best results when i hit them twice a week, i do different stuff those two times. Reps i keep high somewhere around (15-25), calves are the only muscle on me that responds to higher reps.

This one works more on the width.

These two work more the thickness.

There are some anyways, good luck bro.

squats...
If using correct form for squats, I don't see much range of motion for the calves, since the lower legs don't hardly move. Somebody let me know if I am wrong. Either way, I consider doing (deep) squats to be a priority.

Deep squats are the way to go! Free ones at that.

No calves wont work much when doing squats correctly ass to the grass deep.

My calves are genetically small. What can I do? My quads arent even that big either, but I do squat to a little below parallel around 480 but my calves still stay the same. Im looking for more width in general.

Why would you want to exercise your calves since they are already big, as you are saying. How tall are you and what size are they?

I mean that they are big for the average person. I look around and I notice that my calves appear to be bigger than most others. I haven't ever trained my calves, so I figured that this is a good sign.

Let me restate. I want to train my calves and see if they grow. I'm not going to just say 'bad genetics' like so many others and not bother with them.
