glutes, and i use the same needle to draw and pin, never had a problem. doesn't dull it THAT much
GNIOM - Never do this. Swab the stopper with alcohol, use 18g to withdraw from vial, and then replace with your pin of choice used for injecting (I use 23 for oil based).
It somewhat looks like the injection went subq (oil came out of the muscle and went into the subcutaneous tissue). This will cause the area to become red and swollen like that. It might also feel warm to the touch. If this is what happened it will disperse into the muscle tissue but it takes longer to do so as the subcutaneous layer has a slower dispersion rate. Apply heat to the area (you can get a sock and throw some rice in it and tie and close it with a knot) throw it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds (be careful as the sock might get TOO hot!) and apply to the area for 5 or so mins, the sock wont stay warm for that long. They sell things of this sort that work better but you don't have time to order something and wait for shipping so this is a make-shift method.
Next, try warming the oil before injecting. There are several methods of doing this: You can hold your syringe (with the oil in it) in your hand for 15+ mins until it warms the oil to your body temperature. You can run the syringe under warm water for a min or two but make sure it doesn't get too hot! I'll do this and then hold it in my hand to make sure it's not too hot. Or you can use that sock with rice and wrap it around the syringe. I'm sure you can think of other ways to warm the oil but these are just a few. Doing this will make the oil easier to push and allows it to match your body temperature for easy dispersing.
Another thing, if you feel like you're going to pass out, don't take a cold shower. Find a way to elevate your feet to get the blood back to your face. I used to be the same way with the sight of my own blood and needles. Just lay on your back and put your feet on your bed or a chair and take slow deep breaths, in through your mouth and out through your nose. This will help!!
I know you said it's a home brewer, does this person have a label? If not, how can you even be sure you're even shooting prop! If it has a label, does it say whether or not theres BA, BB (the contents of each) and what oil is used? Sometimes people react to high amounts of BB so to narrow this down we need to cover all the bases.
Let's get to the bottom of this!

Pretty self explanatory...
