The 2, 1 - 2,1 plan

I was at my brother's house for Thanksgiving and after feeling like fatasses, we decided (or at least i did) that we needed to lose some weight. My brother has been subscribing to Mens Health for a while and he told me about a plan that makes sense to me.
I named it the 2,1 - 2,1 plan (dunno the real name). Im the kind of person that says "ok, from this day on, Im gonna......" yata yata, then i lose focus and eventually, i stop my goal. This plan, says that i should workout hard for 2 days, eat well and what not. Then, on the third day, i should eat whatever i want and workout again that night too. So after a week, i workedout good for 4 days compared to none. ( make sense?)
I know starving myself is not the way to go if i wanna lose weight.

Is this plan the way to go?
