Been working out for 13 years and have learned a lot from the vets back when I started, along with taking multiple trainers to learn anything Ii may have missed through my 13 years of trial and error. I want you all to post anything here that may help the newcomers as well as the old so that they can make the most out of their blood, sweat and tears....nothing worse than training for years only to find you were doing something wrong.

some advice...
1-dont bang out your girl or catch a beaner from her b4 you go to lift
2-never wear running shoes squatting
3- never be intimidated by anyone else in the gym(if they bench more than you whoopty doo)
4- if your not sure about something ask someone...then ask someone else about the first persons advice
5- trial and error is the fool proof method for diet and training
6- less is best
7- go heavy but strict
8- work out alone for awhile then incorporate a training partner
9- last and most important NEVER COME TO THE JERSEY SHORE AND GO TO MY GYM (which is usually empty) AND USE THE POWER RACKS FOR SOMETHING OTHER THAN SQUATS...RACK PULLS, DEADS, BENCH, etc...

For all u newbies, don't leave out core movements- deadlifts, squats. Can't just do a bunch of curls/skulls and expect your arms to get huge.
Don't overtrain. Lift big, eat big, get lots of rest. Diet plays a MAJOR role making great gains. Always better to have good form and lift less then it is to lift a lot and have shitty form. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Spotters can help u make better gains. If u get a training partner, find a motivated one. If u can't do that, just work out alone and ask whoevers in the gym for a spot when u need one.
Listen to your body. Don't keep pushing if something really hurts(for example my shoulder hurt pretty bad several years back and I just kept pushing. then got a shoulder injury. Its better now, but somedays I still struggle with it and i'm only 23yrs old!!)

If it aint working do something else..
your numbers regardless if you a powerlifter or a bodybuilder should be going up..

if you lift in the 8-10 rep range that is fine but the weights you are handling in that range need to go up..if not its time to change exercises or even your rotouine

I can't stress this enough.. Keep a training log of each exercise you do..the weight and the reps... and do it as you go along...not after your workout...
