pic your winners, im going with;
Silva
franca
tito
big nog

I'm going to go out on a limb and say:

marquardt
sherk
evans
minotauro

with all the upsets lately, I figure, why not

My picks:
Nog
Sherk
Tito ---even though if I had to put money on it, I would bet on the shitbag Evans.
Silva

The Nog fight has turned into a real fight. WTF was Heath thinking by letting Nog recover in the second round? That is the most hurt I have ever seen Nog.

Now it goes to a decision. I have Heath in the first..Nog in the other two.

i wouldnt say franka is the fav

Not at the bookie, but by the folks that know...he just might be the favorite. he has the tools that should make him the favorite.

BTW, the average UFC fan is a fucking idiot. How the fuck can they "boo" Sherk and Franca on the ground? Both of these guys are working. Sherk is working his ass off the whole time and the fans are booing. I think they should escort the boobirds outside into a holding tank. Then for an encore, the loser of each UFC fight gets to pick a boobird from the tank and skullfuck them in the octagon.

Yeah, I get pissed when the crowd boos. That was one good thing about Pride (Japan). The audience was very appreciative.

I thought it was a great card overall. I was really hoping Marquardt would win, but I guess I'll wait for Rich Franklin to take the belt back.

Tito of old hasnt seemed to get back in the octagon---seems his gas tank wasnt good today, and he was a bit hesitant to exchange.

IMO tito's game is not complete--he needs to utilize the clinch and use trips etc ---Randy has been saying this the entire time.

I agree about Pride. I think the difference in cultures is what seals the deal. The average UFC fan has never been in a sanctioned event of any kind and has no clue what these guys go through just to prepare for these fights. If they did it once, they would not boo nearly as often. These guys have the stones to get in the cage and they don't deserve that kind of treatment.
As far as Rich goes (he is one of my favorite fighters)...he didn't look too happy about the way the fight went...and rightfully so. He doesn't have anything for Silva either. Silva's striking is better...Silva's BJJ is better. Rich isn't a wreslter, so that pretty much leaves him no outs against Silva...DAMN IT! I like Rich alot and would love to see him take back the belt. I just don't see it happening.

As for Tito, I thought he won the fight, but I could also see the draw. Tito was ahead in the last round until Rashad scored the takedown.
Tito was ahead in the second...lost a point...then damn near put Rashad to sleep. Rashad was on weak legs going back to his corner after that choke.
Tito gassed in the third and it cost him the fight on the cards.

Sherk...HOLY LORD! If he could just strike. lol Franca has been treating people like children, and tonight he got owned.

It was a good card.

I'm outta here tomorrow. I am headed to Vegas to train with Master toddy for a week. I might be back online some or maybe a lot. i just don't know what time I'll have. I figure it will save me a ton of cash if I sit in my room and fart around on the net instead of burning up my wallet in Vegas. lol

I think you are very wrong swellin. That was one of the most boring fights I've seen save for 4 knees by franca. I think that sherk is a freak of nature and a gifted athlete but his strategy today made me want to puke. The fact that he could transition around franca at will for 5 rounds and was unable to land any clean shots is nothing short of a miracle. I'm with Kenny Florian on this one.

I disagree. Sherk put on a clinic against a black belt in BJJ. One thing Royce Gracie proved is that size doesn't matter when you are on the ground. Even though Sherk is so much bigger, Franca still should have been able to do something. Granted, as much time as Sherk spent on top, he should have been able to G&P a win.

It's almost not fair that a guy who walks around at 180+ cuts to fight at 155.

BY THE WAY...

Post fight, they announced BJ Penn vs Sherk in November and Franklin vs Silva in October, along with Rashad/Tito 2.

Not much of a Jiu-Jitsu fan are ya?

I'm a fan of kickboxing, so I always pull for the strikers. I like to see strikes..whether standing or on the ground. But I have enough jiu-jitsu to recognize the chess game taking place on the ground.

Last night, those two guys BOTH displayed black belt level BJJ...even Eddie Bravo stated that. Every time Sherk took a dominant position, Franca had a counter. After a few times of this, Sherk had to try and set up all of his shots. Franca still transitioned out of trouble every time Sherk raised up to land a bomb. It was pretty obvious to me that Sherk wanted to finish the fight (until he got lazy in the 5th..but good Lord, he put on a clinic until then so he needed a rest). Sherk tried repeatedly to get Franca in a position to rain down punches and elbows, but every time he did, he got swept. He NEVER held Franca down long enough to land more than one good attempt before Franca put the moves on him and got out of trouble.

I was shifting my weight and switching my hips so much with those guys that I damn near tore up my recliner. That was a bjj and wrestling clinic. Both guys put on a bjj show. Sherk put on a wrestling exhibition.

I agree with Florian that I prefer to see fights finished. Nog couldn't finish...Herring couldn't finish....Tito and Rashsad couldn't finish....Sherk couldn't finish...so many decisions get old. The only fault I find there is with Rashad and his constant backing up for all three rounds. The rest of those guys tried. Well, except for Herring. He was so fucking shocked that he hurt Nog, that he had no idea what to do. I thought Nog was letting him stay in the fight early just so he could make a big splash in the UFC with a big win in the second over Herring instead of an easy win right out of the gate. then Heath landed that kick. Nog was reeling the rest of the fight. But Heath never moved in to finish him. I couldn't understand that.

Anyway, as for your initial point, I can see why some might think that Sherk just laid there, but if you rewatch it, you will see that every single time he raises up to strike, he gets swept or escaped by Franca. Just watch the bjj going on in that fight. I mean to watch the hand movements and the way they fought for control of one hand or another while down there on the ground jockeying for position. Watch the way Franca used his hips to get out when Sherk started his attack on the ground. That was a fight...balls to the wall. I aspire to one day have bjj like either of those guys.

I'm not denying the skill of franca in keeping sherk from doing damage, but there are two types of ground fighters IMO. The kind that get down there to finish and the type that don't mind laying on someone for 3-5 rounds.

ya i wasnt to impressed by sherk, ya he could pass at will and control him with ease but he didnt even try to finish, he fought not to lose
