What do you do with your old pins, garbage, recycle, take them to your docs office???

I have a container filled with my old pins, and i dont know what to do with them.. should i just throw the whole container into the garbage or recycle bin and call it done??

Brought some to the health department before....but you should get a sharps container for them and then you send it to them for disposal

Put them in a bleach or protein container, tape the top on and throw them in the garbage. Those were the instructions on my city's website for proper disposal. They specifically stated not to use a milk jug because they aren't thick enough and a needle could pierce the jug.

Type how to properly dispose of diabetic needles in to google. I can't post the website put your looking for the official diabetic site. it lists by state the proper way to dispose of your syringes.

I put mine in an empty bleach bottle and then then superglue the cap on and then it goes in the garbage can.

Ill look this up and see...

I got them in a pretty thick plastic container now so we'll see...

The recommended method varies from state to state, or as in the case of Florida, County by County. Look it up online, try searching under "sharps disposal". If you can't find it there, call the local health department and ask them the proper method of disposing of sharps in your area. If you still can't find the recommended method, then use the bleach bottle or protein container method, seal it and dispose of in trash as a last resort. Medical supply places sell specific red "sharps containers" for this purpose. Some even come ready to mail off for disposal.

Your solid waste department employees will thank you.

What these guys said. I just bought a sharps disposal container at Walgreen's. You can trash it (in my locale), or mail it to them for disposal. Like $5.

We have sharps containers at my clinic. There are two ways we do it. One is buy a cheap sharps container from Walmart or any drug store for like $5. When it comes time to dispose, we have a bio hazard place that we ship it to and for a large container it's usually like $75.00. The other way is those bio hazard companies will send you a large container (like a gallon or so) and it will have a shipping label with it and you just ship it when it's full. That is what the neurologist at my clinic does. I think he said it's also about $70-80 bucks for that container.
