Does anyone know much about this powerlifting association WABDL. Would this be considered major or minor leagues. Got a friend that took the world championship at 148 lbs. with a deadlift of 490.5 lbs last year in Vegas at the Riviera I believe, just wondering if this is considered world champion material by other federations or associations.

They claim to be drug free and drug tested, so they would not see numbers like an open meet organization.

APA 148 Open non-tested 615 J. Jackson

You can find some records here:
http://www.worldpowerliftingcongress.com/record.htm
ive seen a 123 wabdl competitor pull mid to high fives as well [ 573 pounds ]. different weight classes in different organizations tend to be weaker , especially the lighter mens classes because there arent that many people lifting in the mens 123 or 132 or 148 pound classes so if that particular organization doesnt have one of the few gifted lifters in that weight class then the winning numbers will be lower . make no mistake your friends #s at his weight are VERY RESPECTABLE and i tip my hat to him :)
on a side note rumor has it theres a young wabdl lifter whos consistently benching well into the 7s in the 220 weight class [ remember this is not only drug tested but single ply shirts
]and the wabdl pres says hes drug tested him 3 times .
the pres of that organization is gus rethwischis a impressive guy , hes been in a couple of movies , he was in arnolds running man as buzzsaw/chainsaw or what ever his name was but he was one of the charecters who chased arnold around , he was also in scorpion king and a few more movies as well .
heres wabdls home page for those interested

Yep yep, in APA California I've seen lighter classes with bigger numbers, I forget what lifts exactly though. APA in my particular state is kind of a "joke" in the upper weight classes though, i.e. 550 bench @ 275 and so on.

the 550 isnt as bad as it sounds if hes a 3 lift competitor , heavy squats shred the shoulders and tend to keep the bench #S much lower for 3 lift competitors than for bench specialist . im more impressed with a legit 1000 pound squat than a 700 pound bench but thats just me :)

Yeah my buddy said he saw that guy pull mid fives at 123, I believe he called him a freak. Actually he has two other brothers that competed in the juniors and one took the championship at 132 and the other took second at 148. Both brothers at 148 bench in the lower 300lbs range... pretty fuckin amazing. They have also been training for the octagon in 2005.

I never thought of it too much but I have serious issues getting the bar anywhere but resting on my neck just about, and I've hurt my wrists trying to do any better :(

The 550 guy didn't have any other records but I'd assume him to be a full power guy, 550@275 isn't earth shattering ;) although of course I'd be stoked as hell to put that up.

wabdl is dead and bench only. no full power.

we have a girl at our gym in the 148s that pulled over 5. the all time world record pull for a 148 is 705. each fed has its own world/ national/state records. I have several of all three but none of them are all time world records.

and dawgy wabdl allows dbl ply denim bench shirts. they cant be open back though which defeats the purpose of dbl denim. but mendy likes a closed back shirt.

they do now but rumor is its about to change because of all the new turbocharged polys . at the new orleans meet some of the wabdl officers were talking about some guy useing a 2 ply titan f-6 that couldnt get 900 to touch :eek2:

i saw where some of the dbl polys are not allowed now.

one of our guys is sponsored by metal now and he got one of the new dbl poly shirts. that shirt is stout. hits different than the denim so he's gonna have to find a new groove. he is lifting tomorrow and i dont think he's made his mind up yet on what shirt to wear. he hit a 700 in his karin shirt a few weeks ago. he is a 220er.

those guys that cant touch arent hitting the groove of the shirt. i can touch 315 in mine if i hit the groove. but as you know the groove is about 1" wide. when you hit it the bar drops fast and explodes up even faster.

i agree to a point but thes new polys are fickle . i think they have more potentaial than denim but they seem to be throwing the weight up to the face if you miss the goove by a rch

the groove of my karin shirt is from the belly to above my face. if i am high on the descent then i have probs touching. gotta fight it down. but if i hit on my belly the bar goes down with out a struggle. less than a second. with mine if i relax it goes to the natural path. let it find its own way.

but you are saying, with the ploy, that if you miss the groove the shirt pulls it back to your head on descent?

the fury throws it up to my face when i start up if i miss the groove a little . ive heard the same of the other new generation polys as well . its probably not the shirts as much as people need to adapt to the shirts groove . its just a different feel from the old blast line or my inzer denim . ps i know i need a karins dd crawford cut but its not in the budget right now .

i got an old karin dbl denim. one of the originals. i like it just fine. the crawford/mcvicar cut is about 225. i paid 135 for mine, a couple of yerars ago. she made me a squat suit too.
