what do you think about supplements?

I do not use nutritional supplements. when I was a kid I used protein powder and bcaa, but now I prefer not to use. What do you think? are really useful? if you take them while on steroids or during rest periods?

I think its stupid NOT to use supps

i use protein power, taurine, munlti vitamin, vitd, vitc, creatin and b12 yearround.

Honestly I think supplements are great. A lot of people hate supplement companies because they over hype the products and lie about them. Saying that certain products will give you 10 pounds of muscle In a week and what not. But I can say from experience and studying about supplements for a long time that there are a lot of helpful products out there. I personally notice a very big difference when using a Bcaa drink while working out. I also enjoy pre work out drinks for the euphoria and extra kick of energy and pumps. I think that all the different types of protein out there can be very use full for meeting protein requirements for the day or just for a quick something to help to keep the muscles fed before sleeping.

Obviously when compared to steroids they are nothing special. But for a natural bodybuilder they can help tremendously. Also the effects of certain supplements can be amplified by steroids. I mean protein and amino acids will definitely be used more efficiently by the body when taking something like testosterone in my opinion compared to if you were just natural. Honestly I just believe in using every single edge you can get to attain the physique you are after and supplements can help a person attain their goals quicker. I would say though that if some one never missed a meal and had everything perfectly calculated when it came to nutrition workout supplements wouldn't be needed as much. But it is almost unrealistic to meet those daily requirements for some people. Vitamins and certain health supplements though are essential in my opinion for optimum growth and health. I have personally noticed a difference after taking NAC I use to have pains around my liver and they disappeared. I have no idea how they disappeared but I don't get the pains out of the blue anymore. A certain knowledgeable member and his essential supplement list made me realize what NAC had to offer :).

exactly! some supps are GREAT. many are over hyped...

I can't physically eat my required daily amount of macros... so protein drinks are a must for me...
I also find taking Creatine 'off-cycle' helps me keep a certain amount of strength and mass - and I also don't see the problem in taking a few BCAA's when a particular meal might inadvertently lack a certain ingredient...
Currently taking CNP's Pro Peptide for my protein needs, Creatine, BCAA's, Multivit, and I always keep some protein bars at hand should I get any sweet cravings. Keeps me from the biscuit jar!

Yep. I don't see how food alone can bring anyone to optimal levels in certain categories. RDA's are a joke.

Depends what you mean by optimal.

Vitamins are nice to have, but generally speaking are a waste of money as people generally won't be micronutrient deficient except for a rare few like zinc(in men) and calcium(in women).

Creatine is pointless in a good portion of people and won't realistically see a dramatic increase in performance to justify the price(though it is cheap), b12 is water soluble(and you body only metabolizes what it needs), and protein powder is just a food.

I've always found it comical seeing people spending $50+ bucks on vitamins when realistically they'll piss out the majority of it. Sames goes for protein; I see people trying to get 200g in daily - that's some expensive glycogen.

Well, optimal would be the maximum you could utilize. Get your B12 serum in the 4000's and then compare. Night and day. Incredibly cheap and certainly not a waste of money.

Excretion is something you have to consider. So if you're clueless and downing supplements in quantities that lead to too much excretion, then yeah, waste of time.

This has everything to do with being educated. Uneducated individuals will always waste money. Problem is people buy products based on the title. No one reads a label anymore. Like the "One a day" mens. THAT is a total rip off.

I rely on protein powders to get me to my macro figures... I cannot each that much in whole foods...
I like creatine to keep off cycle strength and mass, I always keep protein bars at arms length in case cravings hit - they keep me out of the biscuit jar...
I take a morning multivit, I'm considering B12 injections and I supplement zinc...
Once in a while I'll throw a pre-workout drink in, if sleep has been an issue.... but I wholeheartedly agree, the uneducated will buy into these advertising claims and expect wonders... it's harsh.

Taurine is a life saver. 5 grams a day saves my lower back. w/o taruine squatting and training back is a NIGHTMARE due to crippling pumps.

I guess we have different definition for "value for money".

I don't see the point in spending $40+ bottle on vitamins when realistically they'll do little to nothing in regards to health or performance.

You can buy a bottle of test for the price of some multivitamins, and don't me get started on test boosters that cost like $100+ for a three month supply, haha.

I guess I see pretty much all supplements as snake oil.

If I took dog poo and turn it into a powder and told people it would increase muscle pumps I guarantee we would have individuals come on here talking about "Enzo's secret pump formula works!".

lol. I didn't know we're comparing steroids to vitamins. If you're paying that much for vitamins, oh boy... research is needed. But either way, we can all agree that you can be healthy without supplements. For me, healthy is not good enough. I like to go beyond maintenance. :)
