So I've just started TRT and my doc injected 75mg Test Cyp 5 days ago and he has asked for me to have blood drawn first thing in the morning of day 8 to see where I am at. Kinda soon and probably a waste of time and money for more blood work but I guess he just wants to see where 75mg has put me.

I am assuming I will still be pretty low. More than likely exactly the same as where I was before starting. I don't feel any positives yet but it's only the first shot.

Any idea where only one 75mg shot will put me 8 days later? He says if I am still low we will up it to 100mg and try bloods again. My thoughts is that I probably need to stick to this regiment for at least 4 weeks to get an accurate reading.

Before starting I was sitting at:

Testosterone - 6.8nmol/L range(8.4-28.8)
Free Testosterone - 196nmol/L range(170-630)
Biovalable Testosterone - 4.6nmol/L range(4.7-15)

:( feeling pretty sh*tty.

Unfortuantely it's different for everyone. 100 mg per week put me at around mid 600's, when it was once a week. 140mg once a week put me in the low 900's. When I switched to two times a week 70mg 2x per week puts me at 1010 on the morning of my next shot. SO my trough is only at 3.5 days instead of the morning of the 7th day if I was taking one injection a week.

It may take 4-6 weeks for the full effects of testosterone to kick in, so that you feel it. Some people report much more energy within the first week, which I did myself. However blood levels are blood levels. If you inject testosterone it's releasing itself over the week, and your test levels should come up. 100mg had put me mid 600's, so maybe 75 would have put me in the low 5's? It's all speculation, because I never injected 75mg by itself and waited 8 days. Also the way your body processes testosterone may be completely different.

If your doc is going to put you on TRT though I'd request being able to self administer the shots, split them into two doses per week, try to get him to put you on HCG 2x per week at 250iu each, or 500iu each if you're above 45, and Arimidex, to control e2 issues if you have any. Don't just start taking it unless the blood work shows you're having issues, or if you're having symptoms.

If your doc won't prescribe an AI you can get Liquidex from RUI and handle it yourself. There are many sources for HCG that are cheap. Look at the board sponsors to find one. Is it ok to mention a board sponsor/source guys? I'm not sure if that's ok for me to mention.

Sweet doctor. Glad you're seeing a trained professional that understands the half-life of testosterone and what time it takes to reach serum blood concentrations at a steady-state. Probably is fully capable of responding to elevated estradiol too.

Oh wait, that was just my sarcasm taking over the keyboard. :wiggle:

It takes 4-5 weeks before you will truly know where your dose puts you. I would imagine that you will be sitting at or below where you were when you first came and saw him. 8 days is slightly past the half-life of testosterone cypionate, and as he's shutting down your natural production (as little as you had) - which will probably not have a positive outcome. I'd seriously let him know that you've done some homework (please keep reading about TRT; 'ology has an AWESOME library of information at your fingertips) and have read that it takes a little over a month of repeated weekly/bi-weekly injections to determine where treatment puts you.

If he's very inexperienced at this, I'd certainly think about looking elsewhere for treatment, but given the ranges - sounds like you're in Canada. Apollon will likely chime in on his fun times looking for quality healthcare if so.

My .02c :)

Yes, this is what I thought. My levels will probably be even lower on with this blood work due to my natty test being shut down.

This is probably the 20th doc I have seen about this problem over the past 5 years or so and all refuse to treat me because they say I'm too young. I'm 38... WTF!?

This is the first doc that has finally agreed to give me a script so I'm trying to stick with him and educate him with the little knowledge I have based on my research but this is not ideal. He's the medical "professional" not me.

The best treatment I was offered previously was to start taking DHEA/Pregnelone. No thanks. Even though I tell them I've tried self medicating in the past and felt so much better they still refuse treatment.

Very interested to hear if Appollon or anyone else has any info on where to find a good doc in Canada (preferably west coast) who has some expertise in this area. I'm beginning to thing maybe an anti aging clinic will be my only option but they are a big investment. Kind of defeats the purpose of paying for the provincial medical plan when they won't help you when you need it.

Ouch, that definitely sucks. On the bright side, you can always do what I have, and just use him as a script monkey, while taking care of the rest on your own. Of course, being in Canada makes this a challenge as private blood work is harder to come by from what I understand.

Keep looking though, you might finally meet a doctor that gets it. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. :)

Wow. Sorry to hear that. 38 is not young at all. I mean it sucks to need it but I started at 38 as well. Lots of guys now days are going on in their 20's which I think is weird but if you need it, you need it.

My experience was like 5 weeks for shit to stabilize with test cyp. You can go to steroidplot dot com and kinda get an idea of what should be going on.

They're just stereotype docs...
you are less than 40 you should not have issues with your Testosterone...
heard this a hundred times. No wait??? A hundred ???
Thats too little. For Shits and giggles I lost count on all the negative stuff I've heard from GPs and Endos.
I had one this week telling me it will accelerate the big C cause I'm on it before 40....

What were your baseline numbers?
if you are on the west coast...
hit up Dr. Richard Bebb
seems the only knowledgeable endo in Canada on TRT.
YouTube vids of him up as well.

I don't know if anyone in Canada can order their own blood work. Certainly not the case in Ontario....
1/3 of the country's population is in ontario.

Thanks so much for this info. This doc certainly seems to know his stuff. I'm going to try get a referral to see him.

And no, unfortunately we cannot order our own blood work in BC, it has to be requested by a doc. However I'm lucky enough to live fairly close to the USA border and have gotten my own testing done at Private MD Labs on more than one occasion. I'm glad I have that option as not many of us up here do.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement. Hope to get this sorted out sooner or later.

Thanks for the clarification Apollon, I know you guys have it rough in some aspects. Glad you could help out here. :)

There you go. I would do the same but NY state is on other side of border for me. Really PRO Liberal state...doesn't allow private MD labs. Last i heard conservatives and libertarians are getting the heck out of that state. Nearest to me is MI. Forget it.

My starting point is 153 and 150mg a week (two 75mg shots) puts me at 550ish. I would love to be at 900 with that low a dose!

That just proves how wide the reaction to Testosterone can be. I've had my levels checked 3 separate times since I settled in on 70mg 2x per week, and I'm consistently almost exactly 1010 ng/dl

Lol, that puts me around 375ng/dL. D'oh!

at 100mg twice a week i come in around 600-800 3.5days after last shot.. everyone is different

So what does that say about our systems halfwit? Does that mean I'm more testosterone sensitive, or that you are a "Hyper ecretor", as I've heard it said. Meaning that your body dumps testosterone at a high rate.

To be clear my levels are taken 3.5 days after my shot, in the morning, right before my next shot. That's my trough.

I am not very big (150 lb) and I respond strongly. 100 mg/week gives me a peak of about 1200 and a trough of about 1000.

Blood test after 8 days is too soon. It needs to be 5 to 6 weeks before you get a reliable blood result.

Clinical guidelines suggest 75 to 100 mg a week, which is in line with natural production. An average male produces 8 to 12 mg of testosterone a day. 75 mg Cypionate should have about 52 mg testostone. Which is in line with what TRT is about, to replace your testosterone production.
If I was in your situation, I would do 100mg every 5 days and do a blood test after 8 injection on the day of my 9th injection before taking the injection. Always do the blood test between 08:00 to 09:00 AM.
