What would be better, box squats sitting down or just regular squats. I notice that if I use a box I can go much further down but when I do regular sqauts I do not go that far. Any opinions?

you should be going deeper on regular squats. back down on the weight and go all the way down then build back up from there. do both kinda squats. that wuld be the only reason i can think of why you cant get your depth on reg squats. to much weight. dep ones hit the body alot differently than high squatting. i hate seeing high squatters. that erks me worse than people not cleaning up thier weights.

I know what you mean.

The other day I was in the gym and wanted to open with squats, all the racks were in use and one guy has 2 plates loaded up and looked like he was ready to go. I asked him and he said he had one more set. He loaded up another plate and proceeded to do the most incomplete squats I have ever seen, like a 2 inch range of motion.

Pissed me off too cause I was in a hurry so I moved on to leg press and that kind of messed up my workout.

I'm a high squater, well I goto parallel and stop. Simple mechanic of my body, long legs and short torso and very bad knees means getting down into the bucket puts the center of weight past my heals and getting down into bucket w/o weight is hard to get back up. My knees are totally fucked.

So parallel w/o bench or box works for me, don't hate me for having bad genetics.

Do you not believe in partial reps at all for squats? For a while I dropped a big amount of weight and did squats, ass to the floor style. As a result my knees are a little fucked. Now I switch in between parallel and partial reps. After a while I get stuck at a wieght for parralells. I start going really heavy with partials and my strenght and size start going right back up.

cutting squats short causes more knee problems than going deep. dont bounce at the bottom but ease down and power up. i do not beleive in partial squats either. a partial squat is not even a squat. they look silly and do very little to help you get stronger. how long did you drop weight and go deep? once again i have trained (i dont even know how many) numerous folks on squats and they all have squatted deep. the biggest problem is bad form. that is easily corrected. you ego may take a beating for a while cause you cant move as much weight but i had rather see a guy squatting 135 for reps corectly and deep than someone backing out with 585 and doing those silly ass high squats. the guy doing 135 is getting more bang for the buck. a parrallel squat in power lifting will get you red lighted and out of a meet quicker than anything.
