Wife and I want a baby - stopping TRT and starting Clomid - advice?

Hi Everyone,

As the title says, the wife and I want kids so I'm going to stop my TRT regiment which is 100mg Test E/ week split into two 50mg doses, no AI. My endo has prescribed me Clomid which I will start soon. I've been on TRT for about 1.5 years. Have any of you done this? If so, how did you feel? Energy? Muscle wise? How long did it take for you to conceive?

Thanks for the help!

Did you try staying on TRT and adding hCG first? If not, I would certainly do that first. It is likely to work as you must have Secondary Hypogonadism since your doc wants to prescribe you Clomid.

Great question. I did not but I did think to go that route mostly because I would much prefer to stay on TRT than go off. Going off concerns me, that's for sure. My endo's reasoning for using Clomid was that hCG suppresses the pituitary and Clomid does not so hCG is what he recommends we try 2nd, if need be. He is a great endo, very experienced in TRT and as much as I would prefer to stay on, I decided to defer to his judgement and expertise.

Do you agree/disagree with his reasoning?

Obviously I disagree. Your pituitary is already suppressed from being on TRT. So what is the harm in using hCG? Further suppression? I think you are doing this in the wrong order. I would urge you to reconsider.

If it were me, I would try 1) hCG while on Test, 2) hMG while on Test and then 3) Clomid or AI-monotherapy while off Test.

Your doc is a genius....
Did he advise you to use HCG while on TRT?
I would def run that before going on clomid.
HCG is known for elevating sperm count as well.
Wonder why your doc is not going that route instead?
HCG mono with a.i. (as needed) should get plenty swimmers going. Then you can stop HCG and go into clomid.
Pretty sure you will need to run some HCG to get your leydig cells stimulated before the clomid can do its thing.

Bang on ^

Have you had any kind of sperm/motility test? It's entirely possible to conceive while on your normal TRT regime. Sure, it can make it more difficult, but why bother going for extra treatment options if they're not needed?
That being said, hCG is good to be on regardless.

If you need/want the extra help, follow Mega's advice. Don't go suffer through going off until you've exhausted all these options.. I really doubt you'll need to come off at all. hCG alone should do the trick, if not hMG should.

I've been down this road before. Came off TRT and used Clomid to conceive our first child. Took over a year, but it worked! For our second, I added hCG to my TRT protocol and it took three months. I MUCH preferred the TRT route (obviously). Both kids are happy, healthy and enjoying life.

HCG brought my fertility back after a month or two. I went my first 8 or so months without it. Personal regimen is 50iu every day.

Clomid could work too, but I would definitely just add some HCG to your current TRT protocol first.
