Will TRT disqualify me from becoming a firefighter?

Does anyone know if being on TRT is a disqualification for getting hired by a Fire department?

I wouldn't think so, but I can't find anything about it. The clinic I go to actually seems to cater mostly too firefighters and cops but these are guys that are already on the job.

I'm in Arizona and I believe most departments test for steroids, and check your testosterone to epitestosterone ratio.

Curious if anyone knows or has any insights on the subject...

Medical necessity for testosterone cannot bar you from employment in the civil service unless you're a pilot I believe. They don't screen for AAS last I heard, and my buddy just got picked up for full time shift work.

Your best bet would be to contact the cities that you're testing for and contact human resources as they may require documentation. Best of luck with the testing, it's definitely a challenge for sure. :)

I've never heard of a department that does any type of hormone testing. Your pre employment physical will likely be very similar to a physical that you'd have at your PCP, plus a few add ons like a chest x ray and EKG. There will be a drug test but again, I've never heard of hormones being part of this.

As long as you have a prescription you'll be completely fine. It's definitely not going to DQ you.

I have read that the trend in Arizona at is that for pre-employment most departments are testing for steroids...I copy pasted this from a pdf I found on a large city in arizonas fire policy...

So im not fooling around with anyting other than my TRT protocol and I agree that Im probably fine since I have a medical reason and all...

Curious about the testosterone to epitestosterone ratios testing though. I wonder what my ratio would likely be...My total test prior to trt was about 212ng/dl....on 200mg test c per week now, my total test is around 700-900ng/dl.

Hmm, that's news to me. They must have had some problems in the past if they're willing to shell out the money for that type of testing.

As long as you're able to provide documentation that you're on testosterone that's prescribed by your doctor, you've got nothing to worry about. Trust me, you're not the only firefighter/potential firefighter that's on TRT.

wow, I can't believe they test all the new recruits for that. Arizona is a crazy place. Anyway thanks for the correction.

Your T/E ratio is going to be high, anytime you inject exogenous testosterone, you are shutting down your natural production, so since you are only injecting T not EpiT there will be T in your system, and very little EpiT. Everything will hinge on the department policy/exemption about TRT, which I honestly have no idea about. Probably best to contact the union and find out.
