1008 Pound Bench Press

My knowledge of PL is a little limited but how much assistance does he have going on? Supports, girdles, etc. Educate me PL'ers.

cool vids I was watching bench videos off on the side one guy looked like tony little doing 315 by 2. another guy didnt have a spot at 315lbs by myself i be scared and had clips on the bar so if he got stucked he couldnt roll the plates off.....

cool vid , love to see big numbers thrown around. I was watching the clip with my mrs, and I was saying " check this spotter, OMG what a fuck tard"

then we scrolled down to everyone paying out on him. thats just plain dangerous, that dude needs his arse kicked

NICE.....but did you guys watch any of the other vids on the right side of the screen? the one where the guy hits 405 for 1? i am not into powerlifting, but is that legal to have that much of an arch in the back? the guy is practically bent over backwards.

when i bench (which i always bench heavy) i lay down like it was 135...flat back, legs out ....that kinda looked like cheating to me....again , i dont powerlift so excuse my ignorance.

as long as the but stays on the bench the lift is legal , arch = increased bench for most

Thanks :D

I got all of these from Elitefitness a while ago. The boards were nice but theres waay too many forums on EF now, I'm not a big user anymore.

Plus George Spellwin is always trying to sell me something

This is all old news.

I think Mendelson holds the record now with 1008, but he's attempted more, check out the end of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF1kRLJ_4B8&search=Scott Mendelson

Gene Rychlak also attempted 1015 but couldn't do it. Here's a video http://media.putfile.com/BenchPress25
and heres a despcription http://www.ironsport.com/articles/detail.asp?ArtID=950

now you see why good spotters are important. he dumped 1036 on his stomach. if that same guy had been spotting it would have been ugly.

on a side note. you know your shirt is hitting hard when you cant touch 1049. :D

imo he is by far the strongest bencher but he just cant seem to get the hang of the shirts the way some of the other elite guys do .
