15 Year Old dies Weight Lifting

Kid was lifting weights at home alone

Doing some bench press

Parents found him dead in the backyard with the bar across his neck

Why I never lift over 225 without a spotter...even if your should blew or you slipped or whatever 225 is more than enough to kill you. RIP kid.

Wasn't a retired football player trapped under 225 recently and had a heart attack or something?

When I first started "pumping iron" I was 11 years old and could only bench 85 pounds :( I distinctly remember getting trapped under the entire set which was 104 pounds.

I once dropped 225 on my chest from full extension and it bounced off without injury. Even if you tore something I think it would be easy to dump the weight off one side or the other.

I am guessing he dumped it on his neck and was knocked out, then suffocated.

Don't recall if I ever tried 4 plates, but I can breathe just fine with 3 sitting on me (rest-pause). I imagine it goes along with your level of strength somewhat.
