19 years old and deciding against gear.. any advice on alternatives for my age?

Hi there,

I'm 19 years old, 5'9 and 183 lbs.

Mainly of fat, low lean mass, just getting back into the swing of things.

I study nutritional science, and help write peoples diets over on BB.com, so nutrition isn't an issue, and I'll be hopping on All Pro's routine.

I've basically decided I won't be taking steroids after all. I was willing to accept the consequences of taking them in order to be able to step on stage, however, I've decided that maybe the risks aren't worth it afterall. I want to lead a somewhat 'normal bodybuilding life' for as much as I possibly can, as I love the lifestyle.

I can pretty much get my hands on anything.

dsb...what is your Body Fat % (just curiosity). Without using gear, personally i use:

Pre:
C4-2 scoops to 10oz
Intra
eXtend 1-2 scoops 8-16oz
Post
Optimum Nutrition 2:1:1 - 2scoops to 13oz (post)

Clean up your diet and lift consistent. Glad you decided against roids. Your too young anyway

Excellent advice, I just wanted to add that you need to decide what your goals are - bulk or cut first?
You stated your body is mainly fat and low lean mass, so I recommend finding your bf% (some basic calipers will do it).
If your over 15% then cut, if your under then bulk. This will allow you to adjust your macros & lifting routine accordingly.

Congrats...like I said the money you where going to use for gear contact 3J and have him set you up with a diet plan.

A choice you will never regret.

Find a nutritionist and learn everything you can about diet! Its all about building muscle and burning fat. As far as training you will have to find what works best for you and have fun with it. Take advice from guys that have been doing this there hole life but you still need to find what works best for you. Train hard for 5 years then maybe think about AAS

lotsa crap you can use that will help you outside of your diet as well that can be used at any age really..

creatine, gw 50, clenbuterol, t3/4, peptides, whey, d-aspartic acid, fish oils, multivitamin, etc...

mainly though ur diet will help you but you can only get results with that as far as your genetics will let you go.
to get a physique like the ones you see in magazines and on the internet you need more than diet alone.

those are some basic alternatives.

Great advice! It took me some time to finally figure out that food was EVERYTHING.

You don't need to hire a nutritionist. Hell, I'd bet the majority of general nutritionists wouldn't help OP or anyone interested in bodybuilding outside of the basics 3J has posted in his sticky.

OP: Smart decision to hold off. In regards to alternatives to AAS, there isn't really anything comparable. There are prohormones and shit; I'll admit I don't know the most about them, but I'd suggest to avoid them unless you research thoroughly and make an informed decision just like you did with steroids. Even though DPR is an admin, I wouldn't recommend blindly taking his word that it's "safe".

The road to success is paved with a clean diet, efficient training, and adequate rest. Everybody benefits from creatine. Since you're just getting back into things I'd stay away from fat burners such as clen/t3/ect.

Prohormones are just as bad if not worse than AAS, they will still shut you down and a lot of them are notorious for being harsh on lipids/liver, some prohormones are actually 17a (oral) steroids directly. You also still need to do a PCT with them as like I said, they will shut you down.

Prohormones suck IMO, if your going to juice do it the real way or no way.

Do you really need us to tell you what to do? Diet/Training is all you need @ 19, not gear so good choice.

GOOOD MAN!! Make sure you stick with that. I did 3 weeks of an oral prohormone by mistake...fucked me up and I am still fuc ked one year later. Im only 20. Buddy you don't need any crazy supplements. If you want protein powder and creatine. Spend all the money on food. Plan your meals out and training out make sure you sleep lots!!! and you will do amazing things. If you think your hormone levels suck for some reason then go get them checked out. Most likely they will be great and it will help give you that extra boost in confidence that you can put on serious size. It takes hardwork and time but you will get there my friend. Be proud of yourself for not choosing to go down the path of steroid use. Also a HUGE tip. Always know what you are putting in your body. Most supplements are not even regulated and it could potentially mess you up still in some way. Thats why I say stick to food and you will have no worries at all! Unless it is fast food...lol CHeers brother!

Ever thought about seeing an endo? I'm in the same boat. 20 years old, took a PH at 17 and didn't know shit. I think it fucked up my thyroid and test levels and am just now going to an actual endo instead of my family doctor based on what I've read on this board.

OP, if you're going to do anything, don't do pro hormones.

Do a cut. Get rid of the excess body fat. Say 10-12% percent. Your body will be primed to gain muscle now(increased insulin and leptin sensitivity) and you won't feel like a fat sack of shit. Lift heavy and try to maintain or increase your lifts. This will ensure you retain or increase muscle mass. If you are a beginner you will most likely gain muscle mass, if you do it correctly(Adequate caloric and macro nutrient intake) Within a year you can have a drastic body transformation. Give it three months to really see an obvious change. I recommend cutting for 3 months then taking a two week diet break to reset hormones(leptin, thyroid, etc) that are down regulated with negative energy balance. Cardio is not necessary but is a nice bonus. Just keep it light so it doesn't interfere with your lifts and makes you hungry.

The most important thing for you to focus on 1.Maintaining or increasing your lifts 2.Getting the right amount of calories, not too little and not too much. 3.Getting adequate rest. This includes sleep, rest days for muscle groups, etc.

Supplements that will help you; 1. Caffeine: Gives you extra energy, improves mood, blunts hunger, increases metabolism and lipolysis(fat burning) 2. Ephedrine:Has a synergistic effect with caffeine, and potentiates all of the effects i previously mentioned. Very powerful combination. 3. Yohimbine: Down regulates alpha receptors, increasing stubborn fat burn. Also has pro-erectile effect, nice bonus. Caloric intake will account for 80-90% of your cut's success. Aim for a 200-500 caloric deficit. The steeper the deficit, the hungrier you will feel and the more muscle mass you will lose. In my experience, 500 calorie deficit is the sweet spot.

If most people knew what i just stated above, a lot less would complain about having shitty genetics, And even great percentage would get much better results from steroid use and you wouldn't see people blasting massive amounts of gear who still look like trash. This is why we tell you, get diet and training down first before considering AAS. So you learn things like this, and how your body responds to different training methods and diets, so when you decide to take AAS, they end up being A LOT more effective.

GOOD! you should wait till about age 25 if anything, besides being ready from training/diet mate!
Take the slow steady safe way.

First off the staff member who posted to you using the DPR earlier in this thread is a world renowned chemist. He worked in the supplement industry designing supplements for a long time. He's done more for the bodybuilding community in the last 10 years then anyone else. He is schooled in nutrition and chemist. TO suggest not taking his advise is like turning down the opportunity to work out with Arnold for a year. To suggest the road to success is paved with a clean diet is a bit much. You wouldn't know a clean diet if a naturally farmed hormone free ,soy free, grain free grass fed cow sat on your chest and put her teet in your mouth! A health diet needs fats.

Be carefully Medhead you have no clue who's behind the curtain. Creatine is liver toxic if it isn't consumed properly. This user name is staffed by professionals not just idiots on a forum.

I will agree with my colleague All the products on Juice Pump - Your Oral Anabolic Source are 100% safe and they work. They are not pro hormones.

those are some basic alternatives.

Clenbuterol really isn't as effective as thought to be plus it's worthless without a good diet in the first place. DAA is a waste of money and has negligible effects on eugonadal populations and even if you're hypo it doesn't have much of an effect. Multivitamins and fish oil are worthless if you get enough nutrients from your diet and using them will only help if you're already deficient in something. T3 is catabolic when not accompanied alongside something that increases protein synthesis so without AAS (which OP decided against) it shouldn't be used. And SARMs may not impact HPTA or test levels but by activating the adrenergic receptors it is still messing with the endocrine system. While not suppressive in the acute setting we don't know all that much about chronic use in a TEENAGED population
