325 Bench!

bigcmonster

Graphic Guy!
Recently hit my max @ 325lbs on the bench.
I'm extremely happy it.

Hope to hit 350lbs by the end of May. Wish me luck!

Congrats. That's a hell of a lot more than I can do. :D

congrats on the pr. when you miss a bench do you miss it at the top, coming off your chest or in the middle? Maybe we can get ya to 350 sooner than may. I have seen several guys put 30 or 40lbs on thier bench just by changing form.

I'm sorry, I'm not following what you're saying.
What do you mean by miss a bench?

Okay thanks Bast!

I can't really say, I just put 325 on the bench
and did one rep and put it back on the rack.
I didn't try to go for another rep.

But if I had to guess it would be coming off my chest.
I know I remember that was the problem when I was
going for 315 a while back ago.

How can this help? I'm curious!

do you do forced reps in your routine? if so when you are not able to complete a rep where do you fail? coming off the chest, mid way up or at lockout?

if you are not doing forced reps then you should start. this will improve your bench as well. you will need a spoter if you dont have one.

everyone has a sticking point in thier bench. if yours is mid way up then set the pins in the power rack at that height off your chest and press from there. if your lockout is your week spot set the pins up 4 or 5 inches from lockout and do those. there is some visdeos posted in the sticky above. theyare slow to downl;oad but show rack presses (done for lockout power) and board presses (done for mid way power) if you are week off your chest widen your grip as wide as possible as this will help to develop the pecs. also do soem negatives with a weight that you cannot possibly press. you need a spot here as well. if your chest is the week point lay off the flies for a while and sub weighted dips or declines.

try the power rack presses i mentioned. do you have a seperate shoulder day? if so when is it in relation to your bench day?

Congrats on the PR man.

I too have a sticking point in the middle. Think I'll do some rack presses starting weds :)

Great Advice, Thanks.

Shoulder day is usually set two days after chest.
I do dumbbell presses, front/side/bentover lat raises.

Excellent. my benching has suffered due to an elbow injury, I'm almost healed and I hope to do as well as you are doing with the bench press

try incorporating your shoulder workout with chest. or make sure you have a least three days between the two. my bench was stuck at 455 for a pretty good while and i couldnt figure out why. my shoulders were always sore. i was doing shoulders one day and bench on another. I dropped shoulders all together and within a few months i hit a 575 bench. now i also changed my training techniques and form but the combo of less shoulder trama and specific training principals have helped my bench tremendously. I treid 600 a month or so ago and just missed it so i will train for a while and try it again in a month or so. BTW i did hit a 585 the same day i missed 600. we have four benchers hittin over 560 in our gym and one at 605. he is the smallest of the 4 at 220. good luck.

is it a bad idea to train shoulders twice a week guys?
My shoulders are pathetic and i was told that if my shoulders are lagging then i should train them twice a week.

good/bad??
