im not doing the 5x5 now, but when doing it (roughly 5 months ago?) my 1 rep max was: flat benched 325, squat 455, and deadlift 415. stats were 6'2 225.

why did you stop doing it?

what are your stats and what kinda lifting are you implementing now?

I switched the routine up due to a friend's influence. Lately, I have been doing more volume (ie 4 exercises per body part, all in the 8-12 rep range with some sets till failure). I havent gained much size at all with this volume routine but have leaned up tremendously. This is probably due to diet though.

Im around 222 now, down from 235. I would guess my body fat post cycle therapy (pct). is 10-12%? I plan on switching back to the 5x5 because I made the biggest strength gains so far.

However, I want to implement some pin work, GMs, and band squats with the 5x5. What do you think Pullinbig?

i think you need to make a real explicit post about the routine pullin, there are guys doing 5sets of 5 on tris and bis and shoulder work...

i think i made it clear. i want the core numbers on guys doing the 5x5 routine. :D

skatt i aint a 5x5 fan for reasons im not going to get into here. so implementing PLing movements into it is drawing a non-response from me. =0l

i did it last spring for a few months, so these might not be exactly accurate, but i know in the general area the sets were.

Bench
255 for 5
265 for 5
275 for 5
295 for 5
315 for 5 (i dont think i ever actually got 5 reps, usually got 3 or so after being fatigued from previous sets)

Squats i was terrible last year
225 for 5
275 for 5 for the last 4 sets

Deadlift working sets i never went past 6 plates

feel free to call me out on the pussy lifts :D

my best squat when on 5x5 was 455x3 a very hard triple and these were done with a much closer stance than im using right now

i didnt train my dead using 5x5..usually did 2 sets of 5 or heavy triples..i think my best pull at this time was 475x2?? straps only

bench i used inclines and i think i got up to 315-320 for 5x5..i never maxed to test..

damn that seems like such a long time ago lol

I saw a good article on 5 x 5 that I beleive would be a very effective routine. Here is a hint. Most days, the trainee does NOT do 5 x 5, and it is extensively periodized. I do not like 5 x 5 for the same reasons PB didn't state--lol. There is just no way the average trainee, gear use or not can do 5 HARD sets of core work with big weight and recover. No saying it doesn't work for some, but they are the minority in my experience.

I did 5 x 5 last year. I have many opinions on the routine. First I will say by set 3 fatigue was kicking in and by set 5 if they were heavy form sucked. OK but the program I read stated start lighter than normal add 5 lbs to the bar each week and shoot past plateus. It seemed to work yet when you get to a heavy weight do 5 x 4 then 5 x 3 then I think the program should be readjusted to do 3x5 for about 5 - 7 weeks. Then take some weight off the bar, not much and do 5 x 5 again and cruise past your previous 5 x 5 sticking point. Plateu hit 3 x 5's again and so on....
You know what else I think helps. Alot of new trainees dont write shit down. but this program is simple and allows weight added to the bar weekly so even though you should be doing this on 5 x 5 it just seems easier, this was the conclusion of some freinds as well.

Sample chest day(monday then) & arm day (friday)for me was like this:

flat bench 5 x5
incline bench 2 8-10
incline flyes 2 8-10

I did tris on arm day which was friday and looked like this if I remember:
straight bar curls 5 x 5
standing hammer curls 2 8 - 10
Incline bench curls 2 8 10
Close grip bench 5 x 5
skull crushers 2 8 - 10
press downs or one arm extensions 2 8 - 10

Trust me there are a millionz of routines out there. I know different people who do diff stuff. I am trying some new stuff now. If I feel it doesnt work after 3 or 4 months for me Ill try something else. After a year or so Ill weigh which one is better. YES it feels like a waste of time but Im doing it, I cant afford to pay for help though these days I am very discouraged about my training and my results to say the least. Diet and training are key....AAS is the easy shit.

I used to do 5x5 for squats. I was pretty new to working out, so I grew a lot from it. I started at 135 for 5x5 up to 225 where I stalled a while ago. I don't use it anymore though.

I think my max 1RM for squats while using it was only 265 if I remember right? It was a long time ago.
