Ab training? How often? How long?

Killing Shit
Simple question. How often do you train abs? I'm at twice a week for 25 min. Does anyone hit them everyday anymore?

I hit them on chest, delt, back and arm days for about 10mins ... those days happen 5-6 days a week so usually around an hour/wk total I suppose

Twice a week for me. I couldn't do them everyday even if I wanted to (I don't) because after doing quads on one day and deadlifts with my hamstring day, my abs are spent already.

though I take a different approach to abs as I grew up doing gymnastics competitions. dragon flags, wind screen wipers, levers, walk ups (around the worlds some people call them) and good old fashion weighted crunches are my go-to exercises.

Honestly, I do about 4 sets of 10-20 reps, once a week. I believe abs are fine without much direct work and diet determines whether you even see them. I'm admittedly more interested in strength than aesthetics but I'm not okay with looking like crap. I'd just rather squat and deadlift heavy than be super cut.

That may work for strength athletes but I've seen a few guys with pretty pathetic abs on stage conditioned as fck because they neglected to train them enough...

Heavy squats and deads!! I throw in some planks and dragon flags once in a while. Whenever you have time after a workout is fine. You can train and any time.

Indeed. If you want pretty abs, I am not the guy to give advice. I just do enough to feel like I've given them their due after squats/deads.

I can't tell you how many times I have heard this question. So much literature written on this question all with conflicting opinions. I'd love to have the actual answer to this question but as for now I just say work out, push your self, and keep track of progress. Everyone's body is different and can react differently.

I would say 2x a week for about 20min is nice. I do this. atleast once a week. i will toss in 10min of leg raises sometimes though in a workout so if count those then 2-4 times a week.

everyday. stomach vacuum. im going to bust a Frank Zane in a show next year

i run the vac everyday

when you wear a rash guard / under armor type shirt - they draw your attention to posture, to your waistline

i push the vac when i box, about 6-8 hours a week during rounds in

then conditioning to finish training every time i box/ 2-3 rounds of trading body shots with someone who can hit as hard as i can

i didn't box over the holidays and did weighted crunches.. abs didn't come out any better - and when i went back to brawling i found i had lost a great deal of my ability to absorb body shots without taking damage

days i don't box, i still wear rash guard shirts underneath my hoodie or sweatshirt when i lift

i won't go as far as wearing a " squeam/ squeem" (sp?)

the effect is what your after - rash guard mma trainer shirts do the same job.. mental focus awareness
