Anyone take klonipin or lorazepam?

Had a coach recommend me lorazepam to aid in sleep. Have tried zzquil, ambien, lunesta, and klonipin(only once so I will give it a try again)
He also had tried all of these and the only thing that helped was lorazepam, calmed down his adrenal gland instead of just being a twilight drug.
Thought I'd ask for some opinions.

I have used both of these. They're both benzodiazapines, lorazapam (xanax) being the stronger of the two. IME, they're excellent anti anxiety meds and do wonders recreationally (I was a bad kid.), but for sleep? There's gotta be an alternative. Speaking from experience, benzos will leave you with a hung over, out of it feeling the next day, and long term use has significant consequences. Don't mix with alcohol.

But yeah, they'll put you to sleep. There's a couple of RX anti-psych drugs that really do wonders for sleep that won't give you that hung over feeling. Seroquel is not one of them...that shit will make you feel weird for days. I was prescribed another when I was younger and it was amazing, but I forgot the name. I'll look it up

Anyway, I think it's strange your coach recommended benzos to you.

Well I believe he recommend it because of the stress that comes with meet prep. Squatting heavy singles then doing high volume eod, fatigue his CNS more then the actual muscle itself; thus leaving him in a "fight or flight" mode for lack of a better term. Now he has tuned his program so he doesn't suffer from overtraining. But when he had overtraining syndrome, lorazepam was the only thing that got him back on his normal sleep schedule.
Once he got that in check then he was able to continue meet prep just fine. But with out rest he never restored any energy.
Which in short is happening to me now, not getting good rest. So I'm not hitting my numbers.

Dude all I got to say is. Xanax or valium should be the very last resort for sleeping problems. Addicting substances are not something that are pleasant to cycle on and off of. It is something that will eventually cause distress and make you want to use it when you are not suppose to use it. It will become a physical and mental addiction if not kept in check. And drugs are something that can be kept in check but are not pleasant to be kept in check. I would say maybe 1 out of 100 people can take a physically addicting narcotic and use it as prescribed occasionally. And when using a substance that is addictive a few times a week you will become physically addicted to it. And your tolerance will raise and eventually you will either keep taking it and raising your dosage to "fall asleep" and it will quickly loose its ability to help you sleep at the original dosage. All I got to say is stay away from it unless you absolutely have no choice. Obviously you don't have to follow my advice but im just trying to warn you that it will loose its ability to help you sleep and you will find your self raising the dosages if its used more than once a week.

Man I'm scripted 400mg seroquel ed, and I'm telling u I get the munchies worse then when I've smoked weed.. Definitely makes it hard to diet

I delayed my response because usually Mad- scientist adds a few more posts after his initial one, but now that he's got it all out.. ;) Lorazepam (Ativan) and Alprazolam (Xanax) are both fast acting. Klonopin (Clonazepam) I would describe as a longer acting version of Xanax. I have been on nearly every psych drug out there and I've taken horse tranquilizing doses. My psych (who is a specialist in his particular field, the reason I see him) says he has 3-4 other patients like me where it doesn't seem to matter how high the dose is, we don't respond well. Like Mad- scientist said, these drugs are very addictive. I used to take excessive amounts of Seroquel and Xanax. Xanax I popped like tic tacs. Seroquel I took in grams, not milligrams. I have been relatively drug free for most of the year. I use a little Klonopin every now and then for anxiety. When it gets out of my control I might have a nibble on some Seroquel if I NEED to sleep i.e. an early start the next day. If I can't sleep, I just stay up and read or watch TV. I can manage on no sleep.

Now, to the OP's original question, for relaxation go with some magnesium and herbal tea. Fuck prescription drugs if you don't need them. If you genuinely suffer from a mental disorder they CAN be a God send while you learn to manage and treat your problem. By treat I mean discover what causes the onset or why you're thinking what you're thinking etc. and do what you need to do to make them stop. It's not easy. I still suffer from anxiety and I don't know why. I'm a big guy. I'm a blokey-bloke and I don't like to act like a pussy so it's hard to admit that I have these issues.

But at the end of the day, these are first-world problems.

Wow. I used to sell this drug. All the drugs in this class can cause significant weight gain. Its been a while since I thought about it, and of course the company was doing everything it could to obfuscate the issue, but some researchers thought it was due to hyperglycemia or compulsive eating. Keep an eye on your blood glucose levels to be safe.

400mg of snore-a-quell would keep a lot of people in bed...do you have problems with lethargy?

I'm an addict in recovery, been clean since 11/30/2006, no drink, no drug, no nada. I used and abused benzos since I was 13 and have blacked out a few times. Used to mow a lawn for 120 blue valiums. Popped em like skittles, loved them fuckers with a 24oz of colt 45 and an 8ball of rock. anyways, for me, one is too many and a thousand will never be enough if I get started. I understand restlessness, when I switched to working graveyard shift 3 years ago I damn near went crazy because of it. One of the things that was recommended to me by all the nurses (I work at a hospital) was benadryl. But that can be habit forming itself. The chamomile tea with some peppermint works pretty good, and simply meditating or taking a hot shower and calming myself down. Simply taking something doesn't always work man, especially when they are addictive and habit forming.

Love the Squirrel! I remember taking it at night, waiting too long and then not being able to get up the stairs in my house.

That could've been the Zypreza, Saphris, Xanax [insert other drug names here] that I had with it. Fucked if I know.

careful with the, can make you psychotic or schizo in withdrawals. mixed with juice can make you aggressive. may do something that you regret your whole life. benzo are the most addictive and dangerous drugs out there,..

Phew. Thanks for the warning. I was just about to snort my box of Seroquel. Oh, is intravenous use of Xanax bad? Like, hypothetically if I just injected 1 gram?

Xanax ruins your life fast. My group in high school would recreationally smoke weed and drink but fuck after that first hit of oxy they needed more and more within a month they had upgraded to Xanax and now one of them is fucked for life and the other actually made it out made it to army and is doing ok but his mental compacity is the size of a peanut. After watching this happen I would never take that shit. repryoritize your life if you have to

Lorazapam is NOT xanax. It's Ativan and it's not quite as addicting as xanax. That being said, it is still quite addictive. I use it on occasion for sleep. I do a 0.5mg a couple times a week at most. It hasnt been an issue for me as long as i take a few days in between. My wife took them regularly in the past and eventually needed them or she couldnt function. She was a real treat to be around when they wore off, let me tell ya.

Damn, yeah you're right. It's been a while since I've messed with recreational drugs and/or had sleep/anxiety issues. I believe xanax's generic name is alporazam or something. Either way, lorazapam is a benzo and should be used sparingly.

Got to say I appreciate all the responses!
I never attended to take these with anxiety in mind, yes I have the occasional tren anxiety or odd dreams. But they've never kept me up.
Anyway I'll steer clear of benzos, and look more into 3j suggestion. From what I've read up on, it seems to be another antihistamine. Again for just occasional sleep aid
