If your anxiety is bad consider a psychiatrist, I do. You can't self medicate yourself because someone tells you what works for them. Ativan(longer), xanax(short), clonipin(long term) are all benzo's and act in a similar fashion, length of projected use usually dictates which one is given. There is vistaryl which is a non-narcotic prescription. Most of the SSRI's for depression are also used for mild anxiety. Even Atenolol/Tenorim A blood pressure med is used for axiety in some cases. Point here is have a specialist determine what is right for you.

xanax is great, but I'm addicted to it after about 1 1/2 yrs of being on it every single day. I don't take much (1mg ED), but it's enough to where I can't go a day without it.
I am normal all the time, not like an addict, but like an addict.
It's like, I'm pissed off because every time I try to not take one, I get all the withdrawal symptoms. I can't leave the house without them, or I'll go into a panic just knowing their not in my reach.
Still, they work.

You can get over the anxiety but it can only be done when you consult a doctor, you will have to change some medicine before getting the better one. I used to take Xanax which was prescribed by my physician and it was well suited on me.

what he said, i take a 2mg bar every night before bed, helps me sleep great and i dont have anxiety, but i ween myself off it about once a year, for 4 months, and its about a week of not sleeping, cold sweats, all the other withdrawls.
but its not the end of the world, you just are uncomfortable for about a week and dont notice after that.
