Aussie doctor in the Canberra/Sydney region

Any Aussie members who know of a testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) doc in the Canberra or Sydney region? Can be a GP, endo, or testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) specialist, just someone who is clued in on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and won't just try and ram anti-depressants down my throat.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

I know what you are feeling.

Have you been diagnosed with Low T? Primary or secondary?

This is the first step.

Unfortunately every doctor or Endo I've been to see says I'm fine (within the range) even at TT 392 for a 24-y.o. They won't even listen to the symptoms I have and how I feel, they just keep telling me it's all in my head and try to ram anti-depressants down my throat. I have managed to get into a hormone specialist in December, but now I'm back to waiting and hoping that this guy will take this problem seriously.

I am from Queanbeyan and was diagnosed with Low T Primary Hypogonadism in 07.

How many tests have you had and have you had them in the morning? Remember testosterone can fluctuate during the day.

You gave me the figure of TT392 yet you stated you are from the ACT Canberra region so what exactly is that figure in pmol/L for Free Testosterone and what is your total that is usually between 8.3 and 29 nmol/L?

You need to remember if you go on testosterone it may be for life.

Please list the symptoms you are currently experiencing.

Had a test a month or so ago, first thing in the morning - fasted = 13.7 nmol/L (8.0-38.0). They wouldn't test Free test though.
Had another blood test this morning and got a full hormone panel, but they still wouldn't test Free test. grrr! Will have to wait until next week to see what the results are.

I know if I go on testosterone it'll be for life, but at the moment life is utterly miserable, so It'd have to be an improvement.

I will also point out that I believe this is due to a long course of acne medication in my mid teens, which works by suppressing the pituitary hormone levels.

Symptoms, where to start. I have a huge list, but will try to stick to the more pressing ones:

- No libido or sexual desire - I mean none. I don't even masturbate anymore.
- ED - but this goes hand in hand with the no desire.
- Gynecomastia - which I've had since my teens.
- Foggy brain, trouble thinking, trouble speaking sometimes.
- No motivation or drive to succeed - just keep going through the motions.
- Constantly irritable and grumpy.
- Feel emotionally blunt - no happiness or sadness, just a constant 'gray' feeling.
- Severe lethargy and fatigue.
- Excess sweating and hot flashes.
- Patchy facial and chest hair.
- Joint pain.
- Dry eyes - which is leading to really bad eye floaters which are getting worse and worse.
- Severe dry mouth and thirst.
- Frequent urination - can be busting to take a leak within 30 minutes of going to the toilet.
- Weakened immune system - receding gums, constant mouth ulscers, constant nasal drip, cuts seem to take a while to heal.
- IBS.

There are others, but those are probably the most concerning.

Ok you need to have your free testosterone tested to. That is what give you your energy and drive.

Looking at your symptoms most could be related to Low T but some I am not sure about like the thirst, frequent urination, mouth ulcers, dry eyes.

At 24 years of age you Total T is low. But not low enough. You have to understand mate that most doctors and even endos (a waste of money in my opinion) are not that knowledgeable on Low T. In fact most are ignorant.

Then add the media scare about how bad testosterone is and how it causes all sorts of evil you are in for an uphill battle.

Also there is a prejudice against prescribing testosterone that scare doctors. You have to remember it is their jobs.

Sometimes when I talk testosterone to a new doctor I can judge whether they are helpful and knowledgeable or useless just by their expressions.

I am currently under the care of a men's health specialist Dr Zentner who is based in Perth but has practices in Sydney, Melbourne and elsewhere.

Your body is still making testosterone and yes it could be higher. So in the interim while waiting for treatment or being properly diagnosed as to what is making you feel unwell lets look at other factors.

What is your diet like? (Truth now)

How is your sleep?

If I was your age and had your levels I would attempt to see if I could make my body produce more testosterone. Because at your age and level most doctors will not treat it which is shitty because my father has a higher testosterone than you and he is over 70. And as a 24 year old male your's should be high.

Don't worry mine was under 8.

The research I've done suggest that the acne med side effects are to blame for the severe dry mouth, which leads to the frequent urination. And Low T can cause a weakened immune system, probably making me more susceptible to infections.

So that's the illusive Dr. Z I've heard about, I'm going to see if I can get into see him soon. ATM I'm booked in to a hormone clinic on the Gold Coast (originally form there and going back to see the folks over Christmas), but If I can get into see this Dr. Z then I will take it.

My diet, in all honesty is great. I don't drink, smoke, or even eat or drink sugary foods. My diet is pretty much dialed in. I'm doing a modified carb cycling protocol which seems to work well as heavy carb meals make me very sleepy.

I get at least 8 hours sleep every night, usually go to be and wake up the same time every day. I'd sleep through if I didn't have to get up and pee all the time. But always feel tired.

The most frustrating thing is that I'm doing pretty much every thing I can do naturally to raise my test (good diet, weight training, supplementation) and nothing is helping, I can only imagine how much worse it would be if I wasn't doing all of these things.

So do you make the drive out to Sydney to see Dr. Z? Is he good? Cause every GP, Endo I've seen in the past have been arrogant and ignorant. How often do you have to see him? Are you self-injecting?

I now and again take the train to see him at his practice in Sydney but mostly I do phone consultation which cost around $175.00.

He is a big fan of Testogel which many on this forum are not.

Looks like you are doing all the natural stuff. Good work. I am impressed. I thought maybe you were on a diet of Mc Donalds, mixing it with Hungry Jacks and washing it down with a beer lol.

As for the weakened immune system starting taking probotics eat fermented vegetables like sour kraut etc. This puts good bacteria into your system.

You need to determine if you have primary or secondary hypogonadism if you do have it.

Before you roll your eyes try meditation now it probably won't help with the Low T but it hopefully will help with you emotional side of things.

Yeah doing the probiotics and supplementing with Betaine HCL (which did help a little and whenever I stop it I get real bad indigestion).

Emotionally I'd be fine if I wasn't so drained all the time and had the sex drive of a neutered dog.

So does that mean you're on gel? Aren't you worried about transference?

As for Dr. Z, is it true you have to call the medical center in WA to book an appointment in Sydney?

Tranference hmmm that makes me wonder now why my last girlfriend grew a beard. Oh well thats in the past lol.

No not really I wash my hands after applying the gel. And like you my libido still is not that crash hot so my strike rate is below average.

Thanks for the email, will give them a go tomorrow.

Now, sorry if I get too personal, but what's your age? I'm only asking as some places have a policy that they'll only treat males over 35 y.o, this is the same policy for the place I've managed to get an appointment in on the Gold Coast. Fortunately though I had my mum phone up for the appointment and refuse to get off the phone until they agreed to see me. Gotta love mums.

My age is 41 I was diagnosed with low T at 37 but I think it started when I was 35. I trained alot I was a boxer, did weights, and did aerobics and most of that fell away just before I was diagnosed.

I was tired, sore could not get a pump at the gym, my energy levels went down and my endurance deteriorated.

I am not a 100% better but I am alot better than when I was in my mid to late 30s. I now train 5 times a week. My libido and with it my confidence is not sky high but its improved a bit.

Hopefully things will just get better for you. Thanks for all your help. Hopefully I can get in to see Dr. Z.

All the best. Do not give up! Your health is yours and yours alone.

A question for you.

When did this start? What age?

I always felt really lousy through mid teens, but it just seemed to get worse and I only really connected the dots about 2.5 years ago. That's when I swathe most arrogant endo who said I was fine and put me on antidepressants, which I gave 2 years to see if they would help and nothing.

The fact that it seemed to begin mid teens leads me to believe it could be post-adolescent androgen deficiency, there's actually a really good YouTube vid on it m.youtube.com/watch?v=qdTCHYcCSV0

Would that arrogant endo be Professor Wilson?

No, an older gent from the Gold Coast, but I'm sure they're all from the same school of learning.

I actually tried to get into see Prof. Wilson, but could never get through on the phone. Seems like that might have been a blessing now.

I spoke to Point Walter Medical Center today, looks like I can get into see Dr. Z on the 17th of Jan. So I'll still go to see this hormone guy on the GC in December and if he's no help I can see Dr. Z.

If you had a chance to see Professor Wilson or my dog then my dog would be more beneficial to you.

To see him would cost you $300.00 so if you had a choice to see him and pay that money or flush it down the toilet then the later would be money better spent.

He is a fool. He should be struck off the register.

Please warn people off him.

Haha. I like dogs so that wouldn't be a hard choice.

Will definitely warn people off him.
