Bands for bench

Winter

PR Hungry
Hey guys. I'm thinking about purchasing some bands to help resistance on bench. Can anyone give me links to buy bands?

Also, how would I attach bands onto the benchbar?

What is the difference between bands and chains?

Thanks.

www.elitefts.com has pictures, and sells them. I'd start with mini-bands personally, which is what I have.

Chains are going to cost a lot more to ship :D

Band tension increases as tension increases (distance traveled), chain weight increases as they get picked up off the floor.

Thanks bro.

How would I attach it to the benchbar? Do I need a powerrack or can I just use a regular benchpress?

depending on how the bench is made you can attach the band to the uprights or supports and in a pinch you can use a large dumbell to loop the band around .
also get some measurements for the chains and buy the at the local lowes/home depot/hardware/etc. instead of paying shipping .

If the powerrack I use looks something like this:

Where would I put the other half of the band?

unless the bands will fit under the crosspiece you will probablly need the dumbells

Hmm. Okay.

So I would have to put the wrap on the dumbell and place it ontop of the bottom bar? I'm just worried that if I were to try to push up with the barbell, the dumbell might start to wobble and possibly fall off?

loop the band around the db and just lay the db on the floor , just make sure to use a heavy db so it doesnt move .

you could wrap it around the bottom support piece on that bench . you would just have to experiment just a little to find the spot that fits your grovve/body position on the bench .

If you bench under 400 raw you want the mini band. Over 400 raw you want to lightweight band. Use .40-.45 percent of your raw max plus bands.

I loop the two bands togther and slide it inder the bench dso the know id direvctly under you. Then I hook the bands around each end of the bar.

Ah, okay. I just sent you a PM. Forget the 2nd half of it, you just answered it here.

youll most likely cut right through your bands if you put them under that rack or under the bench

youre better off in the rack jsut lay a heavy DB (over 100lbs) on the side and slide the band under the handle and put both ends of the band on the sleeve of the bar put a plate on the outside of the DB so it doesnt roll

are you doing these for speed work or heavier?
if for speed rather than throwing out what percent you should use the best way is to take 50% of your max then subtract the amount of band tension in the bottom to get the bar weight (if you use doubled minis its about 40-50 in the bottom and 100 up top)

if youre doing them for strength work then just mount them and press

He's right. I didn't look close enough at the bench. We have a forza. NO probs with the bands going under you

Okay, thanks.

I am doing this for speedwork. I'm kind of confused to what you mean when you say to subtract the amount of band tension in the bottom to get the bar weight. What do you mean? And yes, I will be using double minis.

take 50% of your 1RM (lets just say this number is 200)

if you mount the bands the way i described it should give you about 40-50lbs of tension when the bar is on your chest

so 200-40=160..when doing bands for speed work you should start with a bar weight of 160 for your speed sets..if its too light add a little weight if its too heavy take some off...remember the point of speed work is BAR SPEED

Okay cool, that cleared everything up for me.

Thanks again. :wiggle:
