beat up and feeling sick from maxing out?

GET BIG
was set on doing a back workout....decided to fuck around and max out on deads.... i did 135 for 15 reps twice, 225 for 12 315 for 10 to warm my muscles up.... hit 495 for one...struggled like a motherfucker and screamed like a savage but got it up.... put three plates back on to resume my workout, but i had absolutely no energy. that was a given. decided to skip the workout and go home to rest. today im feeling shot, my back sore like i hit a full workout, and i feel like im on the verge of getting a cold....could all this be from a max lift? defiantly not complaining, but i am curious.

you prob got a hell of a workout from pulling your max weight. who knows if you would have caught a bug anyway, but i would give it a rest on deads next week and hit it hard after that. congrats on that impressive pull.

that's a true definition of max effort man...

you took your body to a new place, it needs time to recover.

it's actually an awsome thing imo.

Happens to me on occasion...If I hit deads or squats real heavy the rest of my workout i shot and sometimes I just leave, having literally no energy left.

next ime try warming up a little differently imo . the 2 sets of 135 are probablly ok but 6-8 with 225 is plenty then maybe 2-3 with 315 followed by singles with 365 /415/455/ and then 495 . these lower reps might leave room to go up even a little higher in weight .

sounds good, i feel like the singles just tire me out...if the muscle is warm is it bad to jump in weight like that? say, 2 high sets at 135 then get right down to it?

most powerlifters i know wouldnt jump that big .

I kinda makes me cringe when guys go to a bench (cause thats all guys love to do in these yuppy gyms) they are wearing a small tank top in the winter. They just jump right into a work set---ouch.

Year round i am covered up alot . long pants sweater etc.

i dont just jump in...muscles are warm, but i prolly should do singles as suggested above

when i warm up I just pull with singles unless its 135 or 225 i might do 2-3 if I feel like it. 135 to 315 to 495 is definately too big of a jump IMO

Also, your body is just shot. Didnt you do 495 the other week? You need to ycle your intensity . there is no way you can go 100% on DLS every week. I made this mistake once doig max effort dls for 3 weeks straight and by the 4th week every single lift in the gym was down because my nervous system was so shot.

Of course!!! Taxation on the entire nervous system decreases test (temporarily) and beats up the immune system.

That is the very difficult balancing act of high intensity, and recovery. I have a cold, and minor injuries to my shoulder, right knee, and lower back because of the exact same thing. Luckily the injuries are minor and will heal in a week or two. I am having to take 1 week, at least, off.

So, I will go back to the drawing board and back up a bit and go from there. Hopefully you will too.
