Bent-over row..........barbell VS dumbells.....

In my back workout today I tried the bent-over row with dumbells instead of a barbell like I normally do. I found the exercise more comfortable to perform for some reason and you can really squeeze the upper back muscles hard because there's more range of motion. My back was really pumped, moreso than when I use a barbell. I think I'll use dumbells for this exercise all the time from now on. Does anyone else do bent-over rows with dumbells instead of a barbell?

Do you use the same form when using db's or do you do the traditional way and put the opposite hand and knee on a bench?

it's the lawnmower.....switch them both up, bro

or add them together..with one of the other with lower rep/high weights..

i dont really like dumbell that much, i feel barbell gives me a better pump.

But i do switch it up every now and then

Yeah, I meant two-arm dumbell row, not one-arm dumbell row; I don't really like the one-arm dumbell row, it takes twice as long and you don't really use any supporting muscles like you do with two-arm rows because you're leaning on a bench. I don't like training one side at a time in any exercise, I like to train symmetrically.

What do you mean "lawnmower"?

Cosign. I feel the db gives too much room to cheat.

I do them with a mirror at the side of me and I keep glancing at my reflection every now and then to make sure I'm keeping strict form (straight back etc).
If I was doing it with sloppy form I would know that the weight was too heavy.

I find it easier to isolate the lats on dbs.

Yeah, my lats were killing me this morning which never happens if I've done barbell rows. The rest of my back was really sore too. I think I'll stick with the dumbells for this exercise.

I actually found that if i do them straight in front of the mirror and keep my head pulled up so im always looking at myself, it automatically keeps my back flat as a table. just the trick i used and it seems to always work.

Barbells let you use more weight, while with db's theres a longer range of motion. So whichever you need more....

guys with short arms and who are heavier get almost no range of motion from barbell rows [ yes that would be me lol ]
