Better Protein Bars?

I received my three bags of Better Protein Bars today and cooked up a batch earlier. Are these bars supposed to be this gooey? I thought they would harden up after a few hours but they kinda fall apart if you hold them out straight. Is this normal? I haven't tried one yet either. Also I was wondering if eating one of these bars was sufficient enough for a pre-workout snack? One bar contains the following...

Calories - 414
Fat - 21g
Carbs - 36g
Sugar - 24g
Protein - 26g

Yeah I know but its "healthy fat". It's all natural ingredients though and I was looking for something easy to carry around to eat before the gym. It contains whey protein, oatmeal, wheat germ, sliced almonds, cranberries and raisins. Them you add the peanut butter, honey and water.

I make mine different so there is less sugar and fat.

I use almond butter and agave nectar at about 1/2 of what it calls for.

If they shouldnt be gooey but they arnt extremely hard either.

I always keep them in my freezer because they are so good frozen.

I had ZERO issues with the Sour Apple bars made EXACTLY as called for. Did you use EXACTLY what they called for....? The peanut Butter brand is important.

I love these bars. I use "Naturally More" brand peanut butter which contains 9g of protein and 10g of HEALTHY omegas in each serving. So the macros on my protein bars are generally a little different. Higher in protein, lower in sugar and lower in fat.

I will reiterate what BigKevKris said, you have to follow the directions exactly. And the consistency of the peanut butter you use is important. Ive also made them with almond butter like Blondie and they were great too. I use a 15% off code for these, which makes each bar 1.20 each. Can't beat that for whole food snacks.

"cooked"?
your not supposed to cook them at all.

re-read the instructions.
I NEVER had a problem cept when i added toomuch water one time.

made a bach last week. there not gooey and dont fall apart.

so you cooked them?
did you even put them in the fridge?

re-read the instructions and let us know if you messed a step.

I dont think the PB matters, i used the cheapo brand of peanutbutter. but I do agree about other instructions even just a bit more water not even 1/5th a cup extra ad it can mess up the batch.

makre sure you follow instructions and use mesuring tools for water, PB, Honey.

When I read the back of the package and read the ingredient list, I was surprised. Very short and simple. “Whey Protein, Oatmeal, Wheat Germ, Sliced Almonds, Cranberries, Raisins and Organic Sour Apple Powder. ” No difficult to pronounce chemistry 201 pharmaceutical compounds, no dihydrophenylopropilamential whatever… When I read how to prepare them; I was even more impressed. Peanut Butter, Honey and Water were the only pantry items I needed. I poured the package contents into a large mixing bowl, then added my honey and peanut butter. ¼ cup of water to finish it off and then mixed it all together. It seemed to me that the mixture was a little dry and a bit difficult to bring all into cohesion, but as I found out, it doesn’t need to be. I spooned the entire thing into a 10”x14” pan, pressed it into place and put it in the fridge for a few hours.

I agree great ingridients make a great tasting bar.... I love my better protein bars.

I will send you a pm my friend. LIke anything some times it takes time getting used to working with something like the bars.

So long as you follow the directions to the letter the bars will come out perfect. Just like buying pre mad cake mix, browny mix, or any pre made pastry mix at the store the end results can vary a bit depending on how closely you followed the directions and other factors.

However Because the bars are completely no bake/no cooking involved . Making sure they come out perfect is very very easy and simple to do Because you don't have to recook them. No bake so if there is anything wrong you can fix them right there on the spot..

OK so its simple my friend. If the bars are "gooey" , loose, wet or anything like this when you are done making them and have set in the fridge for a wile. Then all you have to do is add anykind of dry ingredient and remix them. then set back in the fridge.

Any dry ingredient would work. Oatmeal, wheatgerm, any kind of protein powder and or any dry powder/additive of any kind. If the bars are loose, gooey, wet and this is the problem that add a little something dry to the mix and remix them. Set back in the fridge and boom bars are perfect.

If when you are done making them and you find the bars are to dry, crumbly, not holding but falling apart because they are not most enough. Then the fix is simple just add more of a wet ingredient of any kind.

Peanut butter, Honey, water, sugar free maple syrup or anything wet at all will work perfect. Add the wet ingredient , remix, set it and forget it boom bars are perfect .

The Pre made better protein bar kits make making a home made protein bars as simple as it can get. Every thing you need is right there in the bag and on the label. Start out by making a few batches following the directions to the letter.

This will give you a feel for how to work with the mix. Then after you are familiar with the original recipes on the bags you can then start to get creative.

Although the bars are high in fat ( when using the original recipes on the bags) 98% of these fats come from natural sources and they are EFA's (essential fatty acids)otherwise known as omega 3,6, and 9 fatty acids.

They are essential because your body cannot produce them on its own so they must come from your diet. The two primary EFAs are known as linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3).
And the better protein bar orginal recipes have a good healthy amount of them in the bars.

These EFAs are necessary for the following processes:
1.Formation of healthy cell membranes
2.Proper development and functioning of the brain and nervous system
3.Proper thyroid and adrenal activity
4.Hormone production
5.Regulation of blood pressure, liver function, immune and inflammatory responses
6.Crucial for the transport and breakdown of cholesterol!!!!!!!!!!
7.Support healthy skin and hair

So I would beg to differ with anyone claiming the nutritional Brake down of these bars are AAAAH "crap" as some one called it lmao. Then that same person followed that up with " I like" a protein bar that I my self would say is "crap" by every definition of the word. No that bar is closer so a candy bar then the better protein bars my friend. I think it was "Chef Jays TrioPlex bars.

So Lets explain how and why. As stated above the better protein bars are 100% all natural and 98% all organic ingredents are used as well. Even the flavors used like the apple and banana bars are made with 100% all natural all organic freeze dried fruit powders!!!! The bars Are high in good fats and with the original they also have a good amount of ( healthy natural carbohydrates). which btw is also not taboo or a bad thing ether.

Carbohydrates, carbs, carbs and more carbs. Are Carbs such a Bad Thing? « Need To Build Muscle Inc. Official Blog

:eek2::eek2:

There is nothing what so ever that is "unhealthy" in the better protein bars. All natural all organic no addatives or worthless cant read ingredients like every other protein bar out there right now.

To put the cherry on the cake after you buy the bars, the honey, and the peanut butter the price is still 1/3rd what it cost to buy the avg protein bar and the better protein bars have twice the amount of protein as the standard!!!! Use our "power butter" to make the better protein bars and the bars end up having 5 times the industry standard of protein in them.

Now what about them OOOO so healthy "i like this kind" of bars that have been mentioned?? HMMM

Earlier some one said that the better protein bars were crap, same as a candy bar? Well we have of course disproved that load of crap!! But then they followed this up with saying how great other bars were.

If you want to call a better protein bars crap and like a candy bar and then toss out some other protein bar as "healthy and great" well then you ought to know what they hell you are even talking about before you do so.

First we have proven Better protein bars when made by the orginal recipes on the packs are 100% all natural, organic, healthy, filled with healthy EFA's , natural good fats, and healthy carbohydrates. They are "healthy" and "good for you" in every single way thinkable . But Later I will even go into detail and show everyone that the bars can also be modified to also make them low fat, low carb, and yet still 100% narual healthy and packed with twice the industry standard of protein or even 5 times that.

So now that we have proven for a fact that the better protein bars or in fact not crap. Let us move onto helping the other people in this thread who are misguided and feel the protein bars they posted up or "healthy" and or good for you in any way at all.

What sets a protein bar apart from the rest. Is it price? is it quality of ingredients? Is it convenience alone? Maybe its taste or maybe its how shinny the label is and how they "tick you" into thinking its low carb and healthy?

Since Die$eL~Man brought up the subject of crap and comparing protein bars to candy
let us do just that!!!

First lets start with the ingredients of popular candy bar on the market.

Ingredients of the number one selling candy bar in the USA today!

Milk Chocolate (Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Chocolate, Skim Milk, Lactose, Milkfat, Soy Lecithin, Artificial Flavor)Peanuts, Corn Syrup, Milkfat, Skim Milk, Vegetable Oil (Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and/or Hydrogenated Palm Kernel Oil)Salt, Lactose, Egg Whites, Chocolate, Artificial Flavor

Now let us go ahead and list the ingredients of the bar that our good friend Die$eL gave us as the healther alternative to better protein bars. The one that is his standard of good for you and healthy and not crap lmao.

ingredients:
blah blah's Protein Blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate), Fruit Blend (Fruit Juice, Natural Grain Dextrin), Whole Grain Rolled Oats, Water Canola Oil, Marshmallow Filling (Sugar, Rice Flour, Wheat Starch, Corn Starch, Titanium Dioxide and Lecithin), Almonds, Graham Crumbs, Honey, Chocolate Chips, Vegetable Glycerine, Coco Processed with Alkali, Natural and artificial flavors. Contains 2% Or Less Of The Following: Plum Puree, Lecithin, Monoglycerides, Organic Soy Butter, Citric Acid, Caclum Propionate, Potassium Sorbate, Salt, And Sucralose.

WOW!!!!!!!!! You positive this is the bar you are choosing to go head to head with better protein bars? You have choisen this ^^ as your standard of healthy, not crap and " not like a candy bar? And will put this bar up against Better protein bars?

Ok well before we move forward lets list the ingredients in a original better protein bar first.

Ingredients list is as follows.
Whey protein,oatmeal,unsweetened raisins,wheat germ,Almonds,unsweetened dry cranberries,.

If its a flavored bar then its got all natural all organic freeze dried fruits IE banana, apple or others.

When prepared with original recipe they also contain All natural organic honey, and all natural EFA fortified smart balance peanut butter.

I could just stop right here and my point would be completely proven but for the fun of it lets keep going. :Pokeowned

In my next post I will explain label laws , different ingredents and exactly what they are and why they are harmful to you. I will do all of this using Die$eL~Man's standard of a healthy good for you protein bar. The one " he likes" ..

This is not to be disrespectful in anyway but rather just using what was posted as the so called " better alternative" and only other standard put forth in this thread.

Better Protein Bars - No Bake Protein Bars

Last edited:
Hello friends...!
Thanks for sharing useful information....I found they are easier to mix if you add a tad of water and warm the honey/Peanut butter before adding the protein...Hope this help...!

Ok lets start with the first part of almost every protein bar label, THE PROTEIN!!! I mean after all this is what we all buy the bars for in the first place so this is one of the most important Ingredients ( or so we would like to think right)

Again using Die$eL~Man's standard of a healthy good for you protein bar. The one " he likes" ..

ingredients:
blah blah's Protein Blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate), Fruit Blend (Fruit Juice, Natural Grain Dextrin), Whole Grain Rolled Oats, Water Canola Oil, Marshmallow Filling (Sugar, Rice Flour, Wheat Starch, Corn Starch, Titanium Dioxide and Lecithin), Almonds, Graham Crumbs, Honey, Chocolate Chips, Vegetable Glycerine, Coco Processed with Alkali, Natural and artificial flavors. Contains 2% Or Less Of The Following: Plum Puree, Lecithin, Monoglycerides, Organic Soy Butter, Citric Acid, Caclum Propionate, Potassium Sorbate, Salt, And Sucralose.

So what does this mean, Protein Blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate), And why is the rest set between the two ( ) anyway? Ok this is how it works. Label laws say you must print ingredients from most to least. It also says if its a protein of any kind you can lump it in with all the other proteins and slap it between the two ( ) after the words Protein blend.. Still with in the two ( ) you must print the types of protein them self from most to least.

This works out great for the Manufacturer for a few reasons. 1 Is the fact that if they put a crap load of soy protein in it and a tiny tiny bit of others kinds. They can still list ALL the proteins as first on the list and what they have the most of. because together they all add up to what the bars has the most of. Split them all up and you might see soy protein listed as the 3rd on the list of ingredients and Whey Protein Isolate last on the list, or close to it..

What is even worse is the fact that if they wanted to. They can use 5 grams of Whey protein Isolate 3 grams of soy protein isolate , 4 grams of milk protein concentrate, 3 grams of whey protein concentrate, 3 grams soy protein concentrate, and then slap a label on the bar that starts with this

Blah blah's protein blend (Whey protein Isolate, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, soy protein isolate, soy protein concentrate). Wow that sure looks like a lot of protein and because of the amounts used they can list the best proteins first and the worst last but collectively the crappy proteins still make up more of the protein in the bar then the others??? Ain't label laws outstanding? Well the protein bar companies think so and they use every opportunity to use them to their advantage.

All of the above really does not matter much when it comes to Die$eL~Man's standard of a healthy good for you protein bars. The one " he likes" ..Why? Well for 2 good reasons.

1. Soy Protein Isolate is the #1 protein source in his standard of Healthy good for you best protein bar. So I guess will just assume he loves soy protein the best over all other forms of protein?

See what I am getting at? Do not be fooled by The label of a protein bar. It does not mean the bar has a ton of these 3 types of protein in it. And being as soy protein is the cheapest and its comes first on the list of proteins you can be pretty sure the (blend) is mostly soy protein. I would say about 80% but it could be has high as even 98% who the hell knows. For all we know to Die$eL~Man's standard of a great protein bar could have 19 grams of soy protein and 1 gram of the other two kinds. They do not have to tell you how much of each kind is in the bar!!!!!!!!

What we do know is the bar may say it has 24 grams of protein in it but 23 grams of that could be soy and the other 1g is another form of protein.. There is no way to tell.

Ask yourself a question. How come no protein bar just uses Nothing but (Whey Protein Isolate) or ( whey protein concentrate) and that is it? just one type as there protein source? and only 1 form of protein? Why is it that 99.99% of every bar out there has a "protein blend" rather then using just 1 single form of protein in the bar HMMMM

And The 2nd reason why All of the above really does not matter much when it comes to Die$eL~Man's standard of a healthy good for you protein bars is. Don don don!!!!!!denature proteins.

The protein in these bars is exposed to extremely high temperatures during manufacturing of the raw ingredients and again in the manufacturing of the bar itself. High heat exposure can denature proteins, which can severely limit your body***8217;s ability to assimilate the amino acids completely into your muscle tissue. What does this mean? Basically when you see a bar that says it has 30g of protein, the probability is very high that little of it will make it where it***8217;s supposed to ***8230; your muscles ***8230; making the protein content of these bars is virtually worthless or pretty damn close to worthless.

Denatured protein? Denaturing occurs when the normal structure of the protein molecules are broken down into an abnormal structure as a result of heat or acid processing for the purposes of pasteurizing the protein for protein bars. This denatured protein can be much more difficult to absorb than non-denatured protein. In contras Cooked protein is useless, what I mean is that the molecular structure of the protein has been destroyed. When heated, the amino acid chains of the protein fuse together.

Our bodies do not have the ability to fully breakdown the protein once the chains have been melded together via heat. The protein is now not only useless, it has become extremely toxic to the body. Consumption of cooked protein is linked to kidney failure, allergies, and even arthritis.

That's why eating food in its whole, raw state is the absolute best way to get your protein. Not only will you be receiving adequate protein, you will be eating protein that can be fully broken down into its amino acid chains and easily used by the body

O and did I mention that Needtobuildmuscle better protein bars are a no bake protein bar!!!!! You simple have a bag of uncooked non Denatured dry ingredients that you then mix together with wet ingredients. Set in the fridge and boom 30 mins later you have 100% natural non cooked raw protein bars!!! let me say that again!!

Needtobuildmuscle better protein bars are all natural, organic, un Denatured . The better protein bars a RAW!!!!! and unadulterated . I would go as fat to say that they are 1 of the only protein bars on the market today that have a usable source of protein in them at all.

Let us explain feather why a RAW protein bar that can only be achieved by making your own protein bars fresh with a no bake recipe (like the one found in needtobuildmuscle better protein bars) is the only way one should eat a protein bar at all.

The worst damage you can do to A protein is by heat and extraction methods and of course the pasteurization and chemical processing process used to fuze 99.99% of today protein bars.

This causes destruction of the bonds between pairs and trios of amino acids. The unique chemical shapes these bonds create, are acid profile keys that fit the enzyme locks in your body to switch on protein functions. Without the keys to open the doors of the cells, you can throw all the denatured proteins you like at your muscles, but hardly any gets retained.

The protein in almost every pre packed protein bar on the market today is worthless. because the protein in them lack the chemical keys that fit your bodies locks.

The unique chemical shapes created by RAW undenature proteins are the keys to optimum protein metabolism. Your body recognises and absorbs this raw protein by a special pathway that cannot be used by denature proteins .

Not to mention that our friend Dei$sel picked us a awesome bar that is slam packed full of good old soy!!!!!!!

Which clearly proves the protein in the bar is 1 of two things. if you are going to try and claim that the bar is not cooked and that the bar is "RAW" Like a better protein bar then

Unfermented soy products contain a natural protein called phytic acid (phytates ,a nutrient-blocking agent), enzyme inhibitors and isoflavones., which is actually ***8220;classed as an anti-nutrient because it blocks the absorption of minerals, especially calcium, zinc, and magnesium.***8221; ***8220;All three minerals play a crucial role in brain health .

But it is more likely that Die$eL~Man's choice of what he thinks is a great healthy protein bar is made of soy that has been genetically modified . IE More toxins are formed during high-temperature chemical processing, including nitrates, lysinalanine and MSG. Soy protein must be processed at very high temperatures to reduce levels of phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors, a process that denatures many of the proteins in soy, making them unavailable to be used as protein in the body

This is your standard of healthy^^^? Bwahahahaa Awesomeness man just awesomeness!!!.

Cooking denatures protein. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, denaturation is a modification of the molecular structure of protein by heat or by an acid, an alkali, or ultraviolet radiation that destroys or diminishes its original properties and biological activity.

It should be noted that not just cooking dentures protein. The process used to make a protein bar and get it into the bar.

But going back to the so called " healthy bar" that has been posted up here in this thread today. Lets talk more about this soy protein that is in the bar. All soy based protein bars and every single "pre packed protein bar" for that matter have one thing in common. They all contain an ingredent known as soy lecithin

What is soy lecithin?

In the early 1900***8217;s, the yet to be named ***8217;soy lecithin***8217; was just a waste product produced during the ***8220;degumming***8221; process of soybean oil. By 1908 the soy bean crushing and soy oil refining companies had expanded and they were having trouble disposing of the large amounts of foul smelling, fermenting waste product. Soy plants in Germany decided to name this waste product ***8217;soy lecithin***8217; and looked for ways to utilize it. By 1939 scientists had found more than 1,000 different ways to use soy lecithin.

It***8217;s important to note that solvents are used during the ***8220;degumming***8221; process of soybean oil, so soy lecithin itself is likely to contain chemical solvents

What is the name of the chemical used for the degumming process? Hexane!!!!!

Remember that name Hexane!!

The "natural" soy protein used in protein bars today is bathed in a toxic, explosive chemical solvent known as hexane. Hexane is used to process nearly all conventional soy protein ingredients and edible oils and is prohibited when processing organic foods like that found in Better protein bars.

Hexane is a neurotoxic chemical that poses serious occupational hazards to workers, is an environmental air pollutant, and can contaminate food."

All soy proteins isolate used to make protein bars are made using hexane baths.ALL OF THEM!!! If its in a protein bar, and its soy, it was given a hexane bath!!

Shocker: "Products such as Clif Bars with the label "made with organic oats and soybeans" are required by law to have 70% organic ingredients -- the remaining 30%, however, can legally be hexane extracted. They can also use up to 30% non organic ingredients of any kind and still legally be called organic.
Ya for more label laws and companies sticking it in your ass without you even knowing it!!!!!

Sounds yummy, doesn't it? So, if you're wondering why you rarely see "organic" soy protein bars, this is one of the reasons. Additionally, The soy protein in all protein bars typically comes from genetically modified plants. Even non-genetically modified raw materials may contain small amounts of GMO-parts, claims GMO-Compass.org, because a total separation of conventional and GM soybeans is technically impossible.

For the record hexane,is classified as a neurotoxin by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a hazardous air pollutant by the Environmental Protection Agency.

OOO shit well that sucks. Hexane is also used to extract oils from seeds and plants like that found in Canola Oil!!!

YES YES YES good old Canola oil yaaaa!!!
That will be the topic of my next post. Lets now talk about how great the canola oil is that is found in Die$eL~Man's standard of a healthy good for you protein bar. The one " he likes" ..

Ok Lets move right into the next ingredient in Die$eL~Man's standard of a healthy good for you protein bar. The one " he likes"!

That would be Canola oil!!!! Hmm Nothing wrong with this right? Die$eL~Man says this is healthy and better protein bars are not so it must be healthy and good for us right?

MEH I think not.

where does canola oil come from? Olive oil comes from olives, peanut oil from peanuts, sunflower oil from sunflowers; but what is a canola? There is nothing in the name to enlighten us. Anyone ever think about this?

Here is the facts everyone should know before buying anything containing canola. Canola is not the name of a natural plant but a made-up word, from the words "Canada" and "oil". Canola is a genetically engineered plant developed in Canada from the Rapeseed Plant, which is part of the mustard family of plants.

According to AgriAlternatives, The Online Innovation, and Technology Magazine for Farmers, "By nature, these rapeseed oils, which have long been used to produce oils for industrial purposes, are... toxic to humans and other animals". (This, by the way, is one of the websites singing the praises of the new canola industry.)

Rapeseed oil is poisonous to living things and is an excellent insect repellent. Rape is an oil that is used as a lubricant, fuel, soap and synthetic rubber base and as a illuminate for color pages in magazines. It is an industrial oil. It is not a food. Rape oil, it seems, causes emphysema, respiratory distress, anemia, constipation, irritability, and blindness in animals and humans.

Rape oil was widely used in animal feeds in England and Europe between 1986 and 1991, when it was thrown out. Remember the "Mad Cow disease" scare, when millions of cattle in the UK were slaughtered in case of infecting humans? Cattle were being fed on a mixture containing material from dead sheep, and sheep suffer from a disease called "scrapie". It was thought this was how "Mad Cow" began and started to infiltrate the human chain. What is interesting is that when rape oil was removed from animal feed, 'scrapie' disappeared.

We also haven't seen any further reports of "Mad Cow" since rape oil was removed from the feed. Perhaps not scientifically proven, but interesting all the same. US and Canadian farmers grow genetically engineered rapeseed and manufacturers use its oil (canola) in thousands of processed foods, with the blessings of Canadian and US government watchdog agencies. The canola supporting websites say that canola is safe to use. They admit it was developed from the rapeseed, but insist that through genetic engineering it is no longer rapeseed, but "canola" instead.

Except canola means "Canadian oil"; and the plant is still a rape plant, albeit genetically modified. The new name provides perfect cover for commercial interests wanting to make millions.

Canola oil from the rape seed, referred to as the Canadian oil because Canada is mainly responsible for it being marketed in the USA. The Canadian government and industry paid our Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) $50 million dollars to have canola oil placed on the (GRAS) List, "Generally Recognized As Safe". Thus a new industry was created. Laws were enacted affecting international trade, commerce, and traditional diets. Studies with lab. animals were disastrous. Rats developed fatty degeneration of heart, kidney, adrenals, and thyroid gland. When canola oil was withdrawn from their diets, the deposits dissolved but scar tissue remained on all vital organs. No studies on humans were made before money was spent to promote Canola oil in the USA.

Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a rare fatal degenerative disease caused by a build up long-chain fatty acids (c22 to c28) which destroys the myelin (protective sheath) of the nerves. Canola oil is a very long chain fatty acid oil (c22). Those who will defend canola oil say that the Chinese and Indians have used it for centuries with no effect, however it was in an unrefined form (taken from FATS THAT HEAL AND FATS THAT KILL by Udo Erasmus).

Rape seed oil used for stir-frying in China found to emit cancer causing chemicals. (Rapeseed oil smoke causes lung cancer) Amal Kumar Maj. The Wall Street JournaL June 7, 1995 pB6(W) pB6 (E) col 1 (11 col in).

Compiled by Darleen Bradley.

Canola oil is a health hazard to use as a cooking oil or salad oil. It is not the healthy oil we thought it was. It is not fit for human consumption, do not eat canola oil, it can hurt you. Polyunsaturated or not, this is a bad oil.
