bike riding vs running

I hate running so much especially on my treadmill it is beyond boring staring at a wall trying to burn calories. I got a nice big trail that goes for miles right by my house thinking of taking my bike doing that, will this be as effective as running? I am no expert on cardio so even newbs encouraged to weigh in thanks.

I personally prefer cycling but this is due to tight calves stopping me running. on the calorie side of things cycling is generally less intensive depending on speed and terrain. however its easier to stay in a nice bpm range cycling.
cliff:- more time cycling=shorter time running -same cal burned but more time

anything that keeps you moving is beter than being bored and quitting! but literature suggests running burns more calories, if that matters. Once definite advantage to running is that the impact on the body helps maintain and build bone density. So running is generaly 'better' for you. But my knees are over it, so I take spin classes, swim, and get outdoors with the kids!

spring and summer i bike about 60 - 80 miles a week..... i definitly lean out when i do. lots of hills where i live and my calves thank me for it.

my knees no like running

Biking is an awesome workout and will burn plenty of calories for you. Also its less stressful on you knees , so you will be less prone to injury.
