Breathing

I always wanted to know how important is breathing when lifting weights. I've caught my self many times holding my breath and not releasing.

Breathing is over rated. :squint:
Learning how to breathe properly can help a lot. Breathe in on the negative rep, and out on the positive. For heavy compound lifts like squats and deads, holding your breath for a brief second is beneficial. It increases the pressure in your core. When squatting for example, breathe in on the way down. Just as I'm about to hit the bottom hold your breath and as you start the positive rep, forcefully exhale.

Breath out on the Hard Part and Breath in on the Easy Part.
Breath out on the Concentric and Breath in on the Essentric.
Breath out on the Positive and Breath in on the Negative.

Example:
If your doing squats, you breath in when you go down & breath out as you go up.
Breathing is pretty important actually, from what I have found.
Practise what you Preach (I do :P )

P.S, Nice to meet you Ironreps.. I see you around alot.
I have seen your log and your progressing well "hi-five".
Glad to have you here with us and not the brainwashed.

Your muscles feed off oxygen. You need to breathe between each rep and make sure you have caught your breath fully before starting a set. My workout partner (dad) holds his breath when he's incline benching everytime. He gets pissed because he runs out of gas at like 6-8 reps everytime. Everytime we get into the same aguement.
Dad- I know I can do this. It's not even that much weight!
Me- Well duh you can do it pussy you've just gotta breathe!!
Dad- Shit I wasn't breathing was I?
Me- You dumbass lol

You too dude. You make some quality posts. Thanks for the kind words.

If you do not breathe your brain does not get oxygen and therefore dies.

hehe jk.

I always breathe in when letting the weight down and exhale at the top or when the weight and/or bar is furthest away from my body.

i agree, you need to learn to breathe from the begening when your'e getting the proper mouvement and it's easy or when your'e gonna put more weight you'll be fcked and will not be able to do it right

True and also holding your breath creates a lot of internal pressure which can cause your rectum to explode

The biggest thing breathing is safety of your blood vessels in my opinion lol. When exerting pressure I try to always make sure I exhale. Then breath in in preparation for the next exertion. I dont want to blow any vessels in my brain. x.x

Blow too many blood vessels and you'll end up being like this

Dude timing your breathing is important as hell (for me at least) when i clean heavy DB's for shoulder pressing if i don't breath enough i will literally drop the weights and almost pass out. Good thing to do is make sure you don't hold your breath, that's the most important part lmao But honestly make sure you get some good deep breath's in because last thing you want is a 100lb dumbbell falling on your dome... :owned:
