Building a home gym... where do I get my equipment?

I'm about to close on my house next month and I want to convert my garage into a home gym. I've got a couple questions for some of you vets.

Where's a great place to buy gym equipment (online or a store)?

I've got a budget of around 2k, what are the essentials that you think I should get.
