Hey! I was wondering if anyone can offer up a good routine for building up and thickening the neck? I know some guy hate having a thick neck but it's what I would like to get. I know genetics play a big part but their must be some good exercises for building a thick neck. Can anybody help? Thanks!

Deadlifts, shrugs, upright rows work for me. Just get larger everywhere and your neck will grow. Neck harnesses work well, just don't go overboard. However, they should be unnecessary I believe if you are doing your basic exercises heavy.

Neck harnesses look like mid-evil torture . . . only seen a few mates actually using these

IMO deads and shrugs are really only ever going to blow your traps up. My traps are ok, but my neck is pretty long and skinny.
I have started using the leg extension machine. Get on all fours and do some raises with your neck/head

You can do some exercises to target neck only, just don't use too mutch weight because it may turn a dangerous exercicse!
I've used it a lot in the past, for strengthening the neck so I can breath in the neck-locks e ju-jitsu(It helped a LOT). but don't abuse or it may became too pronounced!

I agree. Many advices go for working traps, but neck may remain thin (at least upper neck). I make bridges. When I started doing them I made 15 reps with my own weight, now I'm doing 24 with a plate of 20 kgs on my chest.
This exercise targets the upper neck where it joins the head (is it called nape?).

I notice progress doing this exercise. Obviously I also do deads and shrugs. :yesway:

I'd never recommend doing wrestler bridges. Has a potential to do too much damage to the neck and spine. There are much safer alternatives in my opinion.

I've heard people saying they are dangerous but I never had any problem.

I think there are many exercises potencially dangerous if not done correctly.

try shrugging with a closer grip for a few weeks and then a wide grip, I noticed a differance once I started doing that.

i've done neck bridges since high school and i've gotten pretty good results ... just don't start out with all of your weight or else u might fall flat on your face. at first when you bridge use your hands to support your weight. also those neck harnesses are pretty good.
another good thing is taking 500mg of test..that'll make your neck huge too lol

4 way neck machine, and shrugs.

I have a neck harness, and hate it with a passion. The feeling of having your face pulled off just isn't my thing.

training buddies in columbus

Scnto, you can remove this if you see the need but I thought it would be more appropriate in this forum because it wont be the jackasses from the convo answering it and it will be real lifters.

I am moving to columbus Aug 1st and was maybe seeing if anyone wanted to train with me once I get settled. I am interested in Bodybuilding and bench in the 3's. have been lifting 2.5 years . I was just wondering if anyone wanted to help me out in my iron quest since I have to reluctantly leave behind my current training bud that pushed me to where i am today.
