Buying from ology members.... I'm letting this one stay so you learn from it

A member here recenly pmed me who apparently brews his own then sells what he doesnt need. I offered to try out a vial for free then buy that one and 3 more if it was legit. He almost laughed at me.

this scenario seems a lot scarier than buying from a black market brewer/dealer with a reputation. Price was not a smoking deal either, but fair

Does this happen a lot here, as this was my first time being contacted here for gear by a member

From my understanding. Unless they are a sponsor or have the go ahead from marketing they are not allowed to actively rep/sell or promote their products through ology Be very leary, we work hard for our money so make sure you are giving it to someone reputable.

Knowing what I know now, and if it was permitted, I would look at that person's time on this board, see if you can find them on other boards of this topic and see if they post/give advice in the brewing forums to gauge their knowledge. There are more people making their own than you might think. I would personally never sell to anyone i didn't know if I were a homebrewer; too much risk associated and a few more felony charges added when you are trafficking.

Well first and foremost do you know the fella?, you see if the guy was just sending u a vial for free then saying.if u like it buy that one and three more, id say wtf? Who mails.somebody one free vial, then asks for.money later on.. But not to tread on.that water, yeah it is common for resllers, and such, but then again.do u know that guy, how long has he been.on ology? Rep.power, do ppl know him? Does he even lift bro?

He helped and educated many people, he was also learning a lot, he taught me a lot and even convinced me to get off gear because I am only 18 years old. People like him? He is not a scammer. People like you that jump on a wagon and call people names without you knowing anything about the situation are dumb.

There is definitely a rule somewhere about not trying to sell to members unless you are a site sponsor; most likely on the splash page when you register an account. A homebrewer could 100% be scamming someone, it's very easy to drop concentration in a brew from 250mg/ml to 150mg/ml or lower so someone gets an effect, but not the full effect expected and keeps buying underdosed gear while you line your pockets with cash from the demand/cost of goods sold delta.

If your boy is a good dude and claims ignorance, I am sure he can try and appeal to the mods for reinstatement if he promises to follow the rules. They are pretty reasonable people at the end of the day, unless he committed an unforgivable and was warned etc. Not like anyone pays a subscription for these accounts, so don't get all up in arms about something that happened on the free internet that someone is gracious enough to host for us monkeys to throw poo around in.

Plain and simple, if he attempted to sell someone something through a PM without permission then he has broken the rules plain and simple. There are avenues to go through and hoops to jump through to be able to do this, ology is not an open source board therefor people can't openly sell products.

He may have helped you but he made some bad decisions and is now suffering the consequences whether he was legit or not.
