Can anyone tell me WTF is up with my left pec? It feels like it's tearing!

Big time rookie.
So today I was very disappointed, it was chest day and I had to stop my workout and come home because I was in pain. I warmed up my shoulders a bit and stretched properly then I began my warm up on the bench. 45 barbell with 25's on each side for 12 reps 2 sets. Next, 35's 10 reps 2 sets, next, 45's 10 reps 2 sets. At this point I was completely warmed up so I began my workout. Here was today's goal; 215 4 sets 8 reps on the bench. 1st set felt easy, 2nd set was challenging but I knew I could do it. Now from here I was feeling so confident and strong I knew the last 2 sets were going to be hard but I knew I was going to hit 8 reps. I began my 3rd set and as soon as I picked the weight, I felt a sharp pain across my left pec! It felt like it was ripping every time I pressed. I wanted to complete today's goal so bad so I pushed through the pain and completed the last 2 sets. I tried dumbbell press incline with 70's but the pain was too much I had to call it a day. Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Why does my pec feel like it was tearing? This is so disappointing...

U could have possibly advanced the weight you are using too quickly. Did u have a lift off? It is probably the acromioclavicular joint (where the collar bone meets the acromion process of the scapula ( I am not aware of your knowledge of anatomy). AC joint pain is common with bench pressing, especially when lifting alone because it is hard to get into the ideal position under a load. Best thing to do is some rest and maybe take a lacrosse ball and massage the pectoral with it (this should not be comfortable, but use your head).

You seriously don't want a pec tear. Rest it another week and change to machines or something.

I was being a hero and advanced my weights too quickly. Had many warning signs of pain and one day you just hear a snap sound and you're completely fucked then. Look at my pic.... seriously just rest and re-build using machines. You don't want what I had.

Good advise! You don't want to be screwed for the rest of your life!

Thanks everyone who commented and I do believe I increased the weight too quickly which caused the injury. I will rest my chest a week and see how it goes from there. WANNABEAFREAK thank you for sharing your experience I will take your advice.

happen to me too on the right side, took a week off of bench and just did push ups ( with some pain) after two weeks returned to light bench and dips, felt like some fibers tore

Use a heating pad on it and ice 20 minutes heat 20 minutes ice and that'll help with the pain.

Thanks bro. Will do.

Damn! I hope you made a full recovery. I will be taking it easy but I hope it heals quick.
