Im taking my police entrance exam on march 14, The academy will start around june, so im trying to put on some muscle before then. Im 25yrs old, 5'9" 155lbs. Its hard for me to gain weight. I eat about 4 times a day and eat alot, but the weight doesnt stay on. I did work out about 2 years ago, thats how i got to 155, I use to weigh 135. My work schedule allows me to workout after 7pm mon-fri and anytime sat-sun. What will work better for someone like me, more weight or more reps? Im trying to read as much as i can on here. Im just trying to get some suggestions and routines.
Thanks!

Eat more. get in around 300grams of protein a day and about 4000-5000 calories. to monitor this, go to www.fitday.com. as for training, look up DC training or DoggCrapp training. his methods are supposed to be promsing

Start lifting for sure. Heavy basic movements, 2 or 3 days in the gym per week should be plenty. Hope IA or PB chime in for ya. As for eating, if you want to weigh 170, eat like a 170lber. I agree with the protein slick suggested, but upwards of 5000 cals might get you a little more bodyfat than youd like. Add two meals to your day, eat 40-60g protein each meal and fufill the calorie requirements with healthy fats and complex carbs.

4 times a day is not enough apparently then. The more meals per day you have, the easier it is to spread out a large amount of calories. When you eat larger and fewer meals, it makes it harder because your appetite doesn't rebound very quickly, AND the nutrient utilization is more poor.

5-6 meals, 5 is a dead mininmum for me but even at 4k calories I demand no less than 6 meals. Right now I'm around the 4500 mark which is a low calorie bulker for me.

I would second caloric tracking, fitday is great if you have computer access, if not carry a small notepad and write down each and every calorie that goes down your face.

As for the weight staying on you know why right? Same reason people bitch that once they start eating like they used to after their weight loss diet, "the diet sucks because it all came back." Well no shit Sherlock! If you go back to OLD HABITS you are going to have your OLD BODY.

i dont matter how much you lift because once you get in the academy youll lose weight because your gonna run like a mother

I need more muscle!!!

Thanks for all the input. And i meant by "help me put on some weight" is to help me get more muscle, I want to get stronger, Im only 5'9" 155. So i want to atleast have some power to help me out if i make the academy. sorry about that.
Thanks for all the input!

You can get stronger without gaining weight, that comes from training for strength.

Im trying to get in the SAPD. San Antonio TX
how do i go about training for strength? can you give me some advice?
thanks!

you do not have a lot of time stick to the core movements only--squats, deads, bench workout 3 times a week at the most and eat as if your life depended on it--high protein lots of good solid food.
