Can't find a really good answer for this.

I generally go by the rule that if a bodypart isn't sore, it's ready to train again.

But I've read some articles that say you can train abs and calves every day, or traps 4x a week because they're a smaller muscle group.

I'm not sure if I buy that. But maybe there's some truth to it.

What's your take on this?

its a crappy rule imo. endurance athletes have adapted to constant muscular use with little to none soreness and you dont see a lot of swole up marathon runners do you.

lifting/excercise sends the signal to grow but the actual growth is done during rest ,assisted by nutrition/fuel and hromones to a point.

imo the vast majority of people who train major bodyparts 2 times a week would be better off with 1 high intensity HEAVY workout per week.and for the record high intensity doesnt mean racing from set to set , save the cardio for later and rest between sets to allow you to lift maximum weight on the next set.

Abs and calfs are a muscle groups that are always engaged in most all movements, thats why they say they cant be over trained.
You are using your core muscles and calfs to stand upright and walk
