CBC & BMP - A couple results I'm concerned about

I'm going to have a little procedure done next week, and they wanted a CBC and BMP. Primarily I'm concerned about the MPV.

MPV 11.2fL (7.4-10.4)

MPV came back high. I looked what this is, and it's my platelet size. This reading says my platelet size are larger than the normal range, and this puts me at a higher risk for a heart attack. My HCT is fine. Is TRT causing this, and if so, what can be done? I read that this could just mean that these are newly created, or "young" platelets, which are typically bigger, and shrink over time. I did give blood a while back, so I'm assuming if these are young platelets that is why correct?

Glucose 84mg/dl (70-110)

While this technically isn't "high" by the scale, my glucose is consistently 77 while fasted. Now it's 84, is this a sign of anything?

BUN 24mg/dl (6-20)

I'm not too concerned about this, I eat a lot of protein.

While I can't tell you definitively that these are completely not a problem, I think your concerns highlight one of the downsides to frequent testing on TRT.

I've been going through the same thing... doing all these tests and fretting about one or the other thing that is slightly out of range.

I sometimes feel that TRT has turned me into a hypochondriac.

Very often, the thing that was out of range ends up back in range on the next test, and something else looks a little funny and I worry about that until the next test.

We tend to treat these test results as some kind of oracle, but realistically there is a margin of error and in the absence of corroborating symptoms or other evidence of disease, I'm finding it's best not to overthink an isolated barely-out-of-range result.

I personally wouldn't worry about any of the above.

Yup a blood test is just a picture of your blood stream at a single point in time. Hard to get a clear picture until you compare multiple snapshots.

I figured it's nothing, however I am comparing it against several snapshots. I have a number of labs I can compare it to. My blood sugar is typically 77 when fasted. Blood tests were always taken approximately the same time of day. Literally within 10min-20min. I haven't had a CBC since I've donated blood though, so that could explain the MPV with younger platelets that are larger.

Totally fine. MPV is affected by donating, as you're going to have newer platelets at a higher concentration. I spoke with a hematologist about it one time and I was informed that you have to be significantly out of range for the cardiac/clot risks.

A very good point. And when you think about all the millions and millions of people not on TRT/cycling/care about their health that rarely ever do blood work and never pick up on anything being out of range lol..

I'm the same way. Obsessive about all my values - I want everything in optimal ranges, every day year round. Unfortunately it's not likely lol :(
