Constant Shoulder pain, mostly while in bed sleeping.

In the same boat, even though I do equal if not more posterior work; my shoulders have been pulled forward and my bicep has been heavily strained from strongman work. I agree with Dre and Enzo. I've helped mine a lot with dislocates, chest/bicep stretching(a lot of stretching, I've replaced all chest/shoulder/bicep exercise with stretching), posterior activation(tricep, rear delt) to send signals to the bicep to release. And then ice and heat compress to help increase blood flow. As for the cortisone shot, though I have not had one for injury; a guy I work with has had multiple shots in his shoulder.... And from what I can tell his problem isn't going away. He has a temporary relief from pain and then it comes right back. So my opinion is that if the pains so unbearable then yes get the shot, but use that pain relief to better your rehab efforts not to jump back into training and further injure yourself.

Fyi(guy I work with has had problem for about two years)

Yes, that totally makes sense what you said. And I have been training with these strong men guys the past month now. I will work on isolation rotary exercises and build back the strength in my shoulder.

Thank you all of you for your input and valuable information. A lot of it make great sense and I will fortunately keep working on building up my shoulders and steering away from my pain. I'll email my surgeon and tell him I'll skip the cortisone shot work on pulling movements and hit the rehabbing.

Thanks again EVERYONE!

It is a painkiller. But it's also an anti inflammatory. Where cortisone is a steroid, Toradol is a non steroidal.

I was merely comparing the two and how the effects are similar. Unfortunately the Toradol is only good for a few hours, and can't be used for long term pain and inflammation management. Sorry if I got your hopes up :(

No worries, thanks man.

I would suggest you to get "treat your own rotator cuff" book by jim johnson. He explains whole shoulder structure very well and suggests rehab exercises for every different issue.

I just want to heal from this tendonitis in my shoulders and train them in a way that this does not happen again. I'm wondering now if I should stay away from Military presses and stick to Dumbbells?

Thankfully I won't need to go under the knife this time. Not that I have before, but crossing my fingers that I never do.

shoulder pain is no joke, and can be really annoying... I've had shoulder issues for about 10 years now, tendonitis that comes and goes. I suggest staying away from shoulder exercises completely for a month or two, and if u really feel u have to do something just do some really light dumbell laterals (10lbs) or band exercises.

as for the cortisone, it's just a temporary fix, but can help reduce the pain for a while

just keep away from the overhead stuff (barbell, dumbell, front laterals... all no-nos for the time being)

rest and ice are the only things that have helped me with tendonitis in my shoulders and elbows

Look into Dr. Kelly Starrett (spelling?) he's got great info about this type of stuff. Also TPT (trigger point therapy), stretching, shoulder dislocations, etc can help too

This is excellent info. Its what has got me back on my feet again.

There's no reason to avoid steroids for healing; steroids are just anything with a carbon ring if I remember correctly.

Well I have been resting and well seriously dropped some weight, :( totally sucks. I'm still trying to eat clean but not over board as I am not training. I'll start my rehabbing next week and just hit the fuck out of legs. Ice Ice Baby! That's a song right..LOL Got some good info from the other guys here and got some reading to do and just take it easy while cruising for at least 4 weeks. I'll take it easy on shoulders and chest as it also hurts when I hit chest. I am seeing the surgeon tomorrow and will know exactly where is my tendonitis and from their I will go on how to rehab the injured area. And start physical therapy next week.

I masked my shoulder pain with lidocaine cream. Kept lifting, put on 30 pounds and my shoulder is now magically better. However now I have a shot left elbow. :(
