i realize a lot of you are proble familiar with cortizone. I hurt my back rounding it on deads like 6 months ago cause im an ass. Now it still hurts when i wake up in the morning a little. When i fully extend my back it hurts a tiny bit and feels real tight. I had an mri done a while ago and the doc said that i had a slighty herniated disc i think, he said i should try physcial therapy and then if that doesnt work well look into cortizone shots. Th physical thereapy was such a waste of my time and money, do you guys think im permanlty screwed? you think the cortizone will help.?

some of the docs here can give you better info but i have been through back trouble so here goes . ask about some anti inflammatory meds [ celebrex , bextra , vioxx , etc ] they may be enough to help you . your back is used everyday so the injury has remained inflamed and it will take a long time to get better without serious rest or meds . if you dont want to get a script try msm from the health store , start off at 3-5 grams a day for a week or two then go down to 1-2 grams a day . good luck bro

Hey bro,
A lot of ppl with bulging discs have NO syptoms at all. IOW, just because there's an abnormality on the MRI does not necessarily mean it's the source of your pain. It may have been there PRIOR to your bad form!
You may have injured a ligament; these injuries tend to hurt w/ extension, and are often worse (aching, stiffness) in the morning first thing.
Usually, we reserve the epidural cortisone for herniated discs with radicular symptoms, IOW, pain shooting down the legs, etc.
I'd forego the cortisone for now. It will do nothing to strengthen the tissues; it's a catabolic hormone, and over time may weaken tissues.
If there are any docs who do prolotherapy in your area, that might be the way to go. Strengthen tissues, rather than mask the pain.

yea I think I got ligament issues with my elbow/forearm?

Is there anything to help strengthen the base of the bicep(elbow area) where it meets the forearm(brachioradials)? I was taking naproxin but that hasn't done crap!. It has been really affecting my abilty to workout, sucks bad. Any info anyone..............

thats for the replys, for some reason i wasnt getting email notification that people replied. I went to the doc today and i have toi shedule a cotizone shot. I hope it works.

To answer you roriginal question: the cortisone will probably help, but it's usually a quick fix, in my opinion.

if someone were to get a shot what does it do to the muscle? anything bad?

It's not so much the muscle that i worry about, it's the tendon. These structures can be weakened by corticosteroids.

ahhh, ok i see now. so it plays with the strenght and elasticity of the tendon more so than affecting the muscle itslf. cool, good knowledge to have brother!!!
