ok I'm not sure if anymone her as looked at my journal so I'll give ya the deatails weeks 1 I singled 295 now in week 3 I got 2 resp with 310 and this last week I did rack deads from just below my knee and pulls 325 for 2.

anywys my quesiton is in PB's routine it says deads or a modfied version I was thiniking of switching it up doing deads one week then rack deads and then SLDL's

what does everything think of that or should I just wait till I plateau or stick with deads then switch it up??

the way i see it, is this...If you want a big deadlift....simply do deadlifts...this applies to all core lifts.

I would do full deads, untill you hit a sticking point on full deads, then hit up the racks for a month or two, then go back to normal deads again...

variation is an excellent way to stay fresh..
you could alternate each week:
full deads
arched back Gm's or suspended GM's
rack pulls

I don't think rack deads correlate to a bigger deadlift until you have problems lockiing out. It is not a bad exercise, i just don't see it helping your dead, unless breaking the floor is not your issue.

I would absoulutly agree with this...I'm far from a great deadlifter but I would try using bands or chain in correlation with my other movements and If your doing theses for strength I would not pull more than 2 times a month..

agreed. i alternate each week as well and i know its helping.

looks like we have a 50/50 split here

and btw any weight I can get to around mid way up my shin I've never had a problems locking out

maybe PB will see this thread and offer some adsvice since he designed this routine

if you missing the deads off the floor some block work will work. stand on a 3 inch block and pull from there with good form. do not dump it on your back. pull back and use you quads to get to the knees.

pause squats will help these as well.

most guys miss deads because they lack quad strength. they pull all back and run out of steam at the top. using the quads to get to the knees saves alot of back and hams for lockout.

Are you trying to increase your dead? What exactly do you want to do. If you are trying to increase your dead, find out where you have problems, if it is off the floor try pulling off blocks, if you can't lock it out set the pins 3 inches below where you get stuck and pull from thier. If you are just trying to build muscle than you can alternate between the three, i personally hate doing stiff legged deads that heavy as i feel as though they i am getting close to injury.

if you new to deads i would pull every week to make sure you got your form down. once you start to overtrain then switch up to alternating them.

but for now up your reps abit. pulling dbls and triples every week is not working on form.

normally on back/ham day ill do 2 posterior chain movements. the second movement is a lighter weight with higher reps 10-20. deads and pull thrus. racks and reverse hypers. sldl and back extensions. you get the idea.

get me a clip small guy.

i cannot stress enough to you guys that good form is essential esp in the beginning. and you know what? good form a lot of times will put numbers on ya the first time you use it.

heres my dell with deads...i have a pretty bad lower back for my age, fractured to verts....deads KILL my back...and form struggles badly on anything above pansy weight...so my question is should i focus some rack deads to strengthen first then go to full deads? i deffinatly want to incorperate these lifts as i know they are ESSENTIAL!
so any advice is much appreciated

maybe just some assitance work for a while to strenghten the posterior. pull thrus, back hypers, reverse hypers, gms, etcccc. higher reps with lighter weights. is your back healed? you may have a from issue also to be hurting your back on deads. get me a clip and ill take a look for ya.

you ever do your pull thrus with a narrow stance and stiff legged?
ive pretty much been doing pull thrus twice a week.. but i think im going to break it up and do them stiff legged and wider stance the other time

thanks PB, ill get you a clip, but the thing is on lighter weight i get good form..i just cant go heavy so im gussing i just have a very weak lower back :(
upper back is good doing 200lbs wide grip pull downs..with good form..so who knows
