OK, I deadlifted today for the first time in my life without straps. I normally do them with both hands over the bar and wraps. Today i tried them without wraps and hit 495 for 3 and 535 for one, the last one kind of slipped as i was standing up, but if i didn't technically get it, it was damn close. I also can't use chalk at my gym which probably would have helped as my hands were a sweaty mess like usual. Today i used a conventional grip, one under, one over, and i very little of the stimulation i normally feel in my upper back, which is what makes deads a great overall back worker for me. When i uses straps last week i got 495 for 4, it was my second or third dead workout after a 4 mounth deadlift layoff. Now here goes, people talk about using straps like it is some evil, Why? My grip strength isn't bad, but i just didn't get the upper back stimuli I normally get, from using both over with straps. I am not a powerlifter, don't care to be, what other benefits are their from not using straps, my forearms don't lag, and i honestly don't want to create imbalances.
