i am in week 2 of getting back to deadlifts. it has been a good 8 years since i last did these. this week i did as follows:

135X10
225X10
315X8
405X 5
405X3

is this decent? i dont know how to gauge my strength in this department. i have been off cycle for 7ish weeks and i am 224 probably still about 12%bf, give or take a %

somehow , i knew you'd be the first to respond.... but honestly, do you think thats par for an average guy like myself. (average compared to you guys--not the rest of the world)

i will hit at least 455 next week.

405 for 5 at 224 is not good for a competeive powerlifter.

most 220s-242ers are in the 600-800 range for a single.

you asked bro.

dont worry about what everyone else is doing. your battle is with the steel.

I know a guy that at 224-227 pulls 635 off the ground, 5'10" 20 years old. Squats 5 something but only benches 350, no shirt, no gloves, no straps, and nothing illegal. He has clips floating on the net from time to time, and doesn't look like he can lift nearly what he does, but he does.

If you're just starting up deadlifting, then your weights should really shoot up quick.

After a year off from doing deads, I started them again in Jan. I was doing 245 for 5 then. A few weeks back I pulled 405X5 at bodyweight 180.

very respectable progress for 7 months work :)

yeah, i am pretty excited. i am trying to get back to the basics this winter bulking season, with a little more emphasis on power movements.

dont know your guy but by your heavy deadlift description and low bench im guessing hes built better for deadlift [ long arms and a short body/legs ]
if your going to have a weakness and compete at powerlifting then bench is the best , there are 2 leg/back events and 1 for upperbody . my off and on long time training partner is built that way . time and time again in contest ive seen him do well in the squat and have the competition worried only to fall well behind in the bench . the other guys would have a big old smile after bench with a comfy subtotal lead and then bam he smokes them in the deadlift and their smiles disappear :D

what lift grabs the most respect? not amongst your average gym rats who care about curling 90 lb bells and benching..i mean amongst competetive pl'ers

Thanks dawg. It was actually more like 6 months though, I recently had a vacation.

And might I add that I was natural during this time. I'm excited to see where it'll go when I start my cycle in Sept :D

I am more impressed with a big dead lift than the other lifts but i like them all. dead gets the least help from equipment. andy bolton pulled his 933 in a singlet.

Thats what i was thinking as well..not that an 800+ bench isnt impressive but i think the dead is the grandaddyof em all..
