Dealing with insane back and shin pumps

clman8585

bro im like 3% bf i swear
M1t pumps are killing me. Anyone know any other supps besides taurine? .5 miles into a run and my shins and lower back are so bad I can barely keep a pace.

This is anecdotal but i have the same, shin and lower back are just insane, can barley walk and been eating up to 3000g taurine in the morning.
For some reason I had it before bedtime the other day and it made a world of difference for me. Pain and pump was half and barely noticed shin when walking.

There's a couple of things you can try.
1st would be Chelated Magnesium (better bio-availability) @ 400 Mg a day.
Magnesium is responsible for Proper Muscle Contraction and Neuromuscular Transmission, along with 300 other Enzymatic Functions.
And most People are Magnesium Deficient.

2nd would be an Electrolyte Supplement.
Trace Minerals makes an excellent one called 40,000 Volts
For Running, I would also add this, it's Inexpensive.................................. JP

Exactly what I'd say - magnesium is the biggest thing for me. In years past I was deficient and would get nasty muscle cramps because of it.

Calcium too, to a lesser extent. There is some ratio of calcium to magnesium you are supposed to injest to keep them both in balance.

Taurine and staying hydrated

You also need d-vitamin in the mix as its dependent on calcium/magnesium uptake. Its the holy trio from what I understand.

Personally, I have bloodwork with upper values on all of them and still experience the cramps. To the point its difficult walking, it comes and goes from day to day. Can't pinpoint the difference. Any suggestions ?

Cool. I'll see your D Vitamin, and raise you a K Vitamin.

Apparently you should take K when you are taking D, because it prevents excess calcium from plating out in your arteries.

The holy quad

My bloodwork from my annual checkups tends to show low Vitamin D, so I've upped my intake from 5,000 IU to 10,000 IU per day. I'm hoping this next checkup I'll see some response on the D.

Think it works like magnesium can cause a calcium blockage and d-vitamin regulates the magnesium uptake. But was long ago I had it explained so might have misplaced them.

Think you and me both had low d-vitamin on our previous bloodwork, even think we did them same week like this week lol...
I ate 10k iu's every day(for about a month) from a company called Pouri(formerly purepharma) and my values trippled after just one bottle. Still have high values a month after stopping to eat them.
So if you want a verified d-vitamin product, you can use that :)

You need BCAA's and L-arginine and taurine at 2g a day and potasium. 1.5 gallons of water.

How much M1t are you taking a day. I bet your are taking too much.

Also guys, I am not getting cramps. I am getting pumps, these are 2 different things. I stop and lay down and drain my legs..this works.. until .5 miles again and my shins are so filled up with blood again.. not great since I am in the military so I need to be able to run.

Pumps or Cramps, the above advice is the way to go..................................... JP
P.S.
Make sure you are Drinking enough Water, at least a Gallon a day, more would be better.

I have done every single advice in this thread and its better but still not good.
Its hard to explain but its more pump then cramp, but we seems to have same shin thing. For me, its pumping so hard it literally feels like the pump is bending the shinbone itself. Literally bending bones... and I have to stop walking for at least 5 minutes.
If i push it, whole leg below knee's goes numb and starts to get really warm feeling.

The thing that has helped the most is dry needling calves and deep tissue massage on calves as well.

Got something that will help.
I use these cause I have Nerve Damage, and it cramps up my Calves really bad.

Calf Compression Sleeves, I buy mine through Amazon.
They come in all Price Ranges ~ from around $20 to over $50 a Pair.

They go by the Circumference of your Calf.
So order 1 Size Bigger.
The Better ones are Graduated from Ankle to right below the Knee.
Great if you have Shin-Splits to........................................... JP
P.S.
I have a couple different companies, but RecoFit is the Best, especially for Runners.

I also have some less expensive ones that I just wear at the gym.

Everyone keeps recommending different amount of water intake per day and the other day I came across a blog that recommended 0.3-0.5 dl per kilo bodyweight.
I really like that approach as everyone is individual.

So in my case it would be about 2-3 liters per day. (68kg * 0.3dl = 20.4dl or 2.04 liters.)

Any truth to that claim ?
