do you track your progress

I am banned!
for instance i used to track my progress by just appearance, than i started doing weekly regimes, for instance writing #of sets and reps, than trying to beat or at least match those numbers the following week....question is do you feel/notice a bigger difference in gains/progress making personal logs or not, pretty much just freestyling it
 
If you don't have a log, you're doing it wrong. Pick up a cheap bound lined notebook (I use a small one) and do exactly that. It helps you to keep track of stalls and when you need to change things up. It's also a good way to know if you're not giving it your 150%. There have been a few times I go to do something, and I'm like, "How the hell did I do that last week?!" It's a great slap to the face and brings you back into the game imo. :)

i agree with halfwit... how can you tell if your progressing if you dont keep a log..

i would keep a workout and nutrition log.. including a tailors tape measure of certain body parts and your weight weekly (obviously taken while fasting)
 
i just print an online template for workout logs but a nutrition log is to 2ocd for me (mainly because i don't find it important), i mean i have staple foods i eat almost everyday, so i know the minimum amount of protein/cals im getting in
 
I got a logbook. Helps since I might go a few days before hitting a particular exercise again and forget where I left off. Plus it's nice to write things like "great fucking workout, you champ" from time to time when you have a great day in the gym :laugh3:
 
Always. Made a huge difference for me. I walk into the gym, I know exactly what I'm going to do, how much weight, and that I WILL add one more rep than the last time.
 
As halfwit and 3J said, if you do not have a training log, you are not serious about your training. It is one of the most important things you'll bring with you to the gym. It allows you to see progress, make notes about how different things affect you, it allows you to track your workload which makes it easier to know when overtraining or under-stimulation is happening, it gives you your goals before even stepping foot into the gym so you know what you're doing when you get there, etc. it is an INVALUABLE tool in the dedicated athletes training program.

Edit* I also save all my old training logs. I can tell you exactly the weights, reps, and lifts I did on any training day for the last ~8yrs

Edit- got a chance to watch the video. If you seriously believe that bullshit and take your training programming from him, I pray for your soul and for your progress. The man is juiced up beyond belief and wants to talk about overtraining, HAAAA!

lol yea i know, but he's a pretty good motivational speaker "these bon bon eatin muFuhkaz" lolz....im actually planning on starting a pyramid style training program
 
There's an app on the iphone called "flex" that you can enter reps, sets, comments, track measurements, etc. You can email and export all the data in Excel format. It also let's you create workouts. I already have everything planned out when I get to the gym. It shows you previous reps and sets the last time you did each exercise as well. It's easier than a notebook IMO.

The only benefit the notebook has, and correct me if I'm wrong bc I've never used the app, the notebook can be used and written in in such a way that you can see a month or two worth of workouts at once. Makes it easier to track progress and make assessments. The program might do that too idk.

Motivational speaker, hell yea, he sounds amazing and makes me want to lift. Would I follow his actual workout advice, not in this life lol

Not necessarily. You can go back and view all your previous workouts easily though. And like I said you can export everything. I just know I need to beat my numbers each workout. I just find the app easier since I use my phone for music anyways, so It's always right there in my pocket.
