Does anyone else get the same burn from the smith machine as with free weights?

if u consciously contract flex as hard as you can and use a good tempo any movement will give you a massive pump
 
exactly, but dont be fooled by the pump. to get big you have to lift heavy ass weight. the pump can just be a fluff workout, like doing minimal weight for high reps.

i try to avoid the smith all together as barball or dumbell will force more muscle use to balance the weights. the only thing i think i use smith for is a rare very close grip press if i dont have a spotter handy
 
I prefer free weights over the smith. From what I understand free weights work more muscles trying to stabilize the weights.
 
Agreed with how free weights are better. Smith isn't terrible if you're already 30 sets deep and you want some safe burnout sets. I mainly use smith for shrugs n the odd burnout set
